I don't know why this has to be brought up constantly, but low income voters are mostly Democratic and at best are split pretty evenly. Meanwhile, Trump won the middle class suburbanite vote. As usual Democrats completely suck at the messaging war. I still don't see much use of the term "Trumpcare" which is what the AHCA should really be called. I hope when people start dying from losing insurance they know well enough then who's to blame for it and not some nebulous acronym.

This thread loves the easy answer that everyone is just evil monsters but the US really does have legitimately super hosed health care and most people really did see their healthcare get sharply worse over the last decade. Obamacare isn't a healthcare system, it was a really tiny adjustment that helped a little bit in some cases with some regulations on certain things. It was a good thing and it's good it happened, but there is a lot of non evil people that have been really hosed over by what is happening in US healthcare year by year and there is plenty reason people are lashing out to vote for something different other than "they are subhumans" since neither party is offering good answers that actually help them. Like democrat or republican the average health insurance premium has grown 190% since 1999, people on high deductible plans went from 8% to 55% and drug costs rose a bajillion percent. Bush didn't slow this down, obama didn't slow this down, neither party is offering anything except "just have faith, our plan isn't helping you now but later on we'll give you the good plan that totally will!" Like republicans are flat out wrong that their answer is right, but it's pretty easy to see why normal non satan people would want to go looking for something other than what we have.

I hate to accidentally defend a Nazi, but I think that second photo might be someone making fun of them; it's "A Thing" to insist that you shouldn't punch "people you disagree with" (AKA Nazi assholes like Dick Spencer) because it's wrong. I think that dude was just making a joke like "Oh look. Shooting people who 'disagree with you'", taking it to the comedic extreme. But that doesn't mean the tweet isn't still 100% right and there aren't assholes legitimately whining about it. enraged_camel posted:Heh. Anyone who believes GOP was at any point in time the party of business has stupidly bought into their messaging. "Business" was simply the front they used for their lovely racist and sexist policies. If a particular policy was beneficial for businesses, that was a coincidental side effect (which they happily capitalized on), not the goal.

They think if a rich dude gets taxed 35% then that 35% applies to all their income and not just the income over a certain amount. I have had to explain how it works to a ton of people, most of them who have been paying taxes for decades without understanding the concept. It blows their loving minds once they understand it and some, but not all, change their stance on taxes at least somewhat once they do understand.

It blows their loving minds once they understand it and some, but not all, change their stance on taxes at least somewhat once they do understand. This reminds me of this one time an acquaintance who was a young aeronautical engineer bragged about how he was so smart for turning down a raise at his job because it would put him in a higher tax bracket and reduce his take-home pay. I had to interject and explain to him in front of everyone at the table that tax brackets don't work that way. Turns out his company was going around brazenly lying to their employees during annual performance review time, the talking point being "well we are thinking about giving you a 5% raise but we wanted to run it by you first because you would actually end up making less money... so it's up to you, let us know if you want it." And a lot of employees were young and ignorant so they were just turning it down and waiting for another year, hoping the raise then would actually be "large enough to offset the increase in taxes" or some bullshit. The thing is that this dude was quite liberal. But he was also young and naive and had made the mistake of trusting the first real authority figure in his adult life, i.e. his boss. So it's not just conservatives who don't get taxes. It's conservatives, and anyone else they can con.
