Oh, I'm not disputing that is what the message most likely says. That said, Amaris didn't look at it, and did just order it to be broadcast across the NRWR. One would assume it says what he thinks it does, or man is that going to be a clusterfuck. It certainly seems if nothing else both Amaris' want there to be the public knowledge that Uncle Stevie died.

It's genocide, plain and simple.

By this point though, aren't the Pentagon worlds almost deserted of military forces? The clans that were staying behind for the initial invasion decided to BRING EVERYTHING and get in on the Inner Sphere action which was why it was such a big deal to capture that intel from the HPG in that Steiner behind enemy lines invasion a couple missions ago. Seems like the Rim Worlders are going to just find a bunch of scientists and merchants left behind that probably won't hate the thought of the warriors getting put totally out of business.

The Khmer Rouge didn't blow up cities or set off 'dirty bombs'; they just forced everyone onto farms and told them 'This is how you live now'. The resulting forced labor conditions and famine killed literal millions; and that was before the purges. This is why I don't like Uncle Amaris and his ilk. The Amaris's haven't 'gotten better' in the past couple hundred years, its still 'war crime time' with these people.

It's Battletech. Everyone is Warcrimes Time. Amaris is taking the people that got almost wiped out and is sending them to almost wipe out the people that did it. Who also happen to have "wipe out Amaris and everything he made" as oen of their flagship goals. It's genocidal assholes (almost) all the way down.

It's also worth pointing out that Amaris is (seemingly) proposing this, not to his own people, but to an enemy that attacked him. He's not going to be able to have his troops sit around and "force" people into camps. He's not suggesting going around shooting anybody with glasses as an intellectual. To compare it to the loving Khmer Rouge is a bit disingenuous, even to me.

Ammunition, food, water, and replacement parts are all things you need a steady supply of. No matter how much they may have crammed onto their fleets, it isn't going to last forever. Normally they would resolve that with regular convoys from their homeworlds. If suddenly those worlds stop delivering things will get very messy. Thus my earlier comment about becoming true barbarians or settling the sphere.

Modern agriculture is intensely reliant on mechanization and chemical fertilization - there are also all the transportation issues. The population of Cambodia was only like 7 million and something like ~2 million people died. If you wipe out the industry of the clans the population will drop from hundreds of millions to millions or hundreds of thousands. You can say gee they'll only wipe out military industry, but I don't see how they can realistically do that without destroying civilian industry - besides the difficulty in selectively destroy infrastructure while under fire there probably would be some desire to destroy civilian industry if you can build a tractor you can build a tank. Assuming they are stealing and destroying jumpships + dropships you've also destroyed the capacity for interplanetary trade, and every ship is capable of transporting troops so why wouldn't you?

Sure, but if he was out to genocide them he'd just use the Jump Torpedos that he already ruled out due to the ecological damage. You know how we ignore realism for the sake of giant stompy robots? Yeah, that applies to the plans of their leaders. How is he going to wipe out only military industry? Because it'll be in a big neon lit factory called CLAN SNOW RAVEN AWESOME ROBOT FACTORY. It makes exactly as much sense as every other political plan in the entire game if you subject it to realism. Which is to say zero.

Of course they have a well rehearsed plan for the Clanners taking their bait. It's probably detailed to the point of exactly how stunned each post is expected to act. Getting the Clans to "do something stupid" was the prime directive of the whole Andurien campaign. Comstar helping them do it is just icing on the cake and fuel for future machinations. False intel on the Clan Homeworlds stranding the Wolverines being cause for open hostilities would be an amusing shakeup for 2 factions that seem to be doing a hair too well.

I'd rather they just lose fairly from a battle or vote going the wrong way, like PTN has been doing it. Enforced story balance between the factions, as in so many franchises, ruins tension.

The thread definitely does that, but I don't think daddy Amaris dying was all according to plan, just something they feared likely. Even with C* helping the players would have had to succeed if they'd picked the mission. Most missions are victories, but I'm sure they were trying to have him survive. This is just Amaris making the best of a bad thing. RA Rx fucked around with this message at 14:00 on Jun 13, 2017 |

I like the NRWR and their plans but at this rate it looks like the Clans will get steamrolled with little fanfare. Of course that's kind of the entire point of all Amaris's planning, and the thread has consistently chosen to go with the missions where the Clans are the antagonist force (for various reasons), and I don't doubt PTN would find a way to make it fun and engaging, but I'd like to see the Clans win something significant (against either the NRWR or the Houses) at least once or twice to show that they're still a threat.

Nobody was ever scared of the Cappellans taking over half the Sphere or having a tech advantage. They're basically the North Korea of the (canon) setting. But now they might have a tech advantage. As for whether it was the NRWR's idea to get Uncle Stevie killed, no, I don't think even they'd say that. But when they sent him there, they knew it was a distinct probability, and probably planned as if his death was a given. "Don't take anything on a boat you aren't prepared to lose" type deal.
