First and foremost, the Post states clearly that they did not verify the actual Native American identity or tribal enrollment of its respondents. Unlike most “minorities,” non-Native Americans have often declared themselves Native American with little or no factual evidence or cultural connection whatsoever. Furthermore, 56 percent of those asked said they were not part of any tribal nation or could not name what tribe their ancestors claimed. Imagine asking 500 white Americans for an opinion about Europe and not caring that more than half had no connection to their ancestors’ place of origin.

When asked about this (via e-mail), Scott Clement, the polling director at the Post responded:

We see little reason to suspect respondents would intentionally misreport their racial identity or tribal status to a confidential survey. The overall poll results suggest respondents understood a distinction between racial identification and tribal membership, given that a majority of self-identified Native Americans said they were not enrolled. The substantive questions about the team’s name came at the end of polls on other subjects and after survey respondents already had self-identified, leaving no motive (or even opportunity) for individuals to self-identify as Native American when they learned that the questions would center on the team’s name.

Leaving aside the issues of “self-identification,” there is also a problem with demographics. More than half, 274, were over the age of 50. Native Americans have a median age of 26—nearly 10 years younger than the general American population. The Post claims that they “weighted” the results to make sure that those over 50 were given just 39 percent of the voice. But even with “weighting,” by speaking primarily to people over 50—and then including their quotes in the piece as representative of the survey—the Post presented an inaccurate portrait of who we are as a people.

Came here to post that poll is garbage. Happy to see you beat me to it. Here's a link from Adrienne Keene, a native scholar

This is where I want to focus my attention: 56 percent of this “nationally representative sample of Native Americans” was non-Native. I need you to understand this. 56% of the sample has no tribal affiliation

I suggest reading Dr. Keene if you are actually interested in learning about what appropriation is and its effects, instead of just interested in callout soap opera drama

Regular readers of this blog will know that we have posted numerous warnings in recent years about the very poor fire safety standards at Grenfell Tower and elsewhere in RBKC. ALL OUR WARNINGS FELL ON DEAF EARS and we predicted that a catastrophe like this was inevitable and just a matter of time.[39][40]

It was revealed that the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea had threatened the Grenfell Action Group with legal action in 2013 in a bid to prevent the group criticising the council, claiming that such criticism amounted to "defamation and harassment".[41]

The generator/water pump free energy machine is kinda funny and I'm not sure you actually need to rotate the beds. Producing locally is good idea tho, everyone should consider it if they have little bit of space.

It's not free energy the article says right there that it uses 1KW/h . the generator is a way to recoup the losses somewhat from pumping the water, although I can't imagine it really boosts the efficiency all that much.

Even if the generator and water pump were 100% efficient, the generator would pull the same amount of energy from the water as it added to the pump. With a real generator and pump you're adding unnecessary losses; far cheaper, easier, and better to have the water going straight to the pump and lower the pump head by the water already having some kinetic energy than to do that.

Even if you had 100% efficient generator and pump, you are still losing energy to the pulley system so you would either lose water or need to power the pump. The pump is there to recycle water for reason x, except I can't really think of scenario where it would be useful. If you have abundance of water, you don't need to bother to recycle it. If you have very little water, you will want to pump it all up, meaning that whole thing is just fancy and inefficient way of turning the pulley with electric motor. I'm somewhat doubtful that there exists that sweet spot where water is rare enough that it needs to be recycled but there's enough of it that you can do it only partially. And that's not accounting for the costs of the generator/pump.

I wonder if it would be feasible to do away with the pulley system and rotate the thing by watering plants on only one side. I don't know tho if the plants will like dry period they'll experience or if the system will be so sensitive that environmental variations will gently caress it up.

In a magical frictionless system where the mass of all trays was equal (the same world where we have 100% efficient generators), the pulley wouldn't be consuming anything and the generator-pump pair would just be duplicating their own effort, so even in magic world the generator is useless.

In the real world, the pulley uses some power and the pump adds some power, although you're probably better off just using an electric motor for the pulley. In common hydro/aquaponic setups it's common to water and drain the plants with a constant loop of flowing water, so I can still see advantages to the header and base tanks. For all the rest they seem to be doing a 'more stuff = better' thing which is usually not the case for efficiency.
