triple sulk posted:credit karma is ok but most of the banks give you a score now that's actually real banks and creditkarma do what are called soft pulls on your credit and access the same data a hard pull is like when you go to finance a car or apply for a mortgage. you get a ding on your credit rating because it tells people "hey I'm looking to take on more debt." your bank does soft pulls on your credit on like a monthly basis and thats why you get applications for Discover cards and whatever that you shred because youre afraid someone is going to steal your idenity. soff pulls dont ding your credit rating its a boring distinction but hey i used to do that for a living

Don't ever pay for credit info unless you are actually in some poo poo.

when i worked in predatory lending, which sucked, i had to turn down a seminole indian or some poo poo for like a $10,000 off road golf cart that sat six people dude had poo poo credit. to the point where he couldnt open a bank account. he got like $10,000 a month from his casino tribe free and clear for life, but he had to cash the checks at scummy payday loans that charged him $100 for the priveilege i turned him down because he couldnt provide a letter from the tribe, which would allow me to call their accountant, or even bank statements. every car, every credit card, every credit line the guy had ever opened had ended in default or repo. on a pre-tax income of $120,000 per year my boss actually chewed me out over it and i was like no the guy was a loser and didnt give me anything proving he deserved to *lease* his offroad golfcart predatory finance sucked real hard
