The MP4/6 was good but I think Honda's decision to pursue a V12 was the wrong one, although it was extremely powerful. Also the chassis was too conservative both electronically and aero wise as well.

And I think BLMW's massive accident at Brazil in 2014 made him think of hanging it up sooner than later. He wound up winning a World Championship but still missed out on Le Mans. I wouldn't put it past him returning in a GTE car eventually, but for the time being he's pulling a Porsche paycheck and enjoying retirement.

You gotta remember the context of 1990 where Ferrari was really strong with the V12 and Renault appeared to be nowhere.
