Jordan7hm posted:Isn't Beaulieu a pretty marginal defenseman? He turns 25 this year, has played 5 pro seasons, and has amounted to basically nothing. If he wasn't a first round draft pick nobody would be blinking an eye at this trade. Dumping Beaulieu means that they can protect Benn or Davidson, who are probably both better players right now. Beaulieu is a legit 2nd/3rd pairing D and not someone you should be giving up for virtually nothing.

He's like a poor man's Justin Schultz, can't be trusted defensively but also not as good offensively. e: but also Sharks got a 2nd for a defenseman that might not even be an NHLer so go Bergevin keep riding the Habs into the ground. http://twitter.com/WheatNOil/status/876144659185061889 Technetium fucked around with this message at 20:59 on Jun 17, 2017 |

That's still way more valuable than a 3rd round pick, which more than likely will produce nothing at all.

Pavelec is UFA this year If Dallas trades one of their goalies (plus prospect) to Arizona and buys out the other one they have a ton of cap space for two years to load up and take a run while Seguin is still on his sweetheart deal and Bishop is hopefully good. Even then Spezza and his 7 million dollar contract come off the books. I think they'll be fun to watch this offseason. Technetium fucked around with this message at 21:10 on Jun 17, 2017 |

also for purposes of comparison, if the Penguins traded Ian Cole for a 3rd rounder I'd be pretty bewildered and pissed. Cole isn't very good and only has one year on his contract, but nevertheless a 3rd round pick is basically nothing and who the hell is playing those 20 minutes a game next year?

I wonder if Bales was upset over the MAF situation? Either way it'll be interesting to see who replaces him. Or maybe Matt Murray is too good to need a goalie coach Mage_Boy posted:Of course, now that there is no penalty for poaching coaches, everyone steals everyone from the Pens. The Penguins probably benefitted from that rule more than any team while it was still active so I don't think it makes a difference either way. Plus AFAIK the compensation rule only extended to hiring staff away to be general managers or head coaches so the Penguins would have only been compensated for Botterill anyway. Edit: https://mobile.twitter.com/penguins/status/876174963371372544 I don't know who this guy is but apparently he's worked a lot with Murray before so I guess the Penguins are all in on Murray as their guy as if there was any doubt Pornographic Memory fucked around with this message at 22:03 on Jun 17, 2017 |

No offensive upside? He had two less even strength points than Shea Weber this year in half the ice time last year. Granted he was pretty much gifted offensive zone starts (although less so in Montreal) because he's not great on defense (like Beaulieu). He was also a positive possession player and goals for player in Montreal.
