I've said it before, I'll say it again: Stop treating driving as a right. If someone's caught driving dangerously (drunk, fatigued, texting, whatever) take their licence. If they retake the test, give them a second chance. If they gently caress up again (within a year), ban them for five years. If they get do the test again and get the licence back after that, their probationary period is five years and any infraction results in permanent loss of licence. People are being killed by irresponsible drivers all the time, but for some reason we just accept that as OK. If you demonstrate that you can't be trusted to operate a vehicle safely, why should you be allowed to do it at all?

Even people with a bunch of DUI's get exceptions to be able to drive to and from work at specific times.

I dunno, I just bought a new car with CarPlay - I just plug my phone in and the apps shift to the car's built-in screen. I can receive texts, compose/send replies, and make/receive calls solely by voice, it's pretty cool. There's still an element of distraction because you're doing two things at once, but it's a helluva lot less than trying to type on a lovely virtual keyboard and drive at the same time. Of course, it's not a huge deal for me, because I'm old so I'm not texting constantly and don't talk on the phone much, plus it's a stick shift vehicle so you kinda need both hands anyway.

And this is an awful system that enables their dangerous addiction. My aunt has 5 DUIs in the past year and a half or so (and honestly probably drives drunk nearly daily) and she keeps getting light sentences with only days in jail and more recently a small amount of house arrest (which she violates all the time by getting friends to deliver her liquor). And surprise surprise, she hasn't learned any sort of lesson. If anything it encourages her to do it more because her hosed up mind actually likes jail and not having to cook for herself etc. If you are suffering from an addiction you don't need employment, you need treatment.

I really don't understand the european fascination with indian food. Whenever I eat with german colleagues they almost always choose indian or their even worse chinese food. You have very good german specialties cooked properly for cheaper, but no, let's order food that is extremely overcooked and dry as hell. Their chinese food is just embarrassing. Overall my unpopular opinion is that indian food is almost always a dry spiced pile of mush and people only obsess over it because it's "ethnic".

I will order pitchers of PBR to watch an nba game with friends because it's a third of the price of everything else and lets us keep the table. Buying cheap beer but tipping well can save you pretty good money in the end

Bone-in meat not only tastes the best, it reminds you that you killed something to eat it. Grab it with your hands and pull that poo poo off the bone with your teeth.

Yeah yeah it's very primal buying the packaged meat from the animal slaughtered several states away and getting your hands really greasy with sauces made from spices farmed thousands of miles away. Just like hunting antelope on the savanna. You're right that meat on the bone tastes best... Just take it off the bone after you cook it.

Im not saying drunk driving is cool and good. And if you hurt someone while drunk, then there is the guillotine right over there. Im just saying that an arbitrary bac limit at a random stop shouldnt cause someone to be treated thr same as straddling the median at 60mph totally inebriated. It should be based on competence at the time, not a breathalizer number. Imo the solution is better public transit and affordable vehicle recovery.

Jastiger posted:It should be based on competence at the time, not a breathalizer number. Instituting a subjective measure instead of an objective one is completely stupid. There needs to be a hard limit we can point to and go "you are drunk if over this limit." We have Uber now, there's no excuse for drinking and driving unless you're an rear end in a top hat. Get a DD, get a cab, get an Uber, take public transit, etc.
