How many goalies are available in the draft that are also waiver exempt? Probably none. The only way for Vegas to build there AHL team is through trades.

Joonas Korpisalo is waiver exempt. I'd nab him, send him to Chicago and have Mrazek and Raanta as my NHL tandem.

I'd bet on Vegas picking MAF, but MAF and Raanta would be a good tandem.

You're forgetting the "possible serial killers" like Murray and Quick.

Also Lundqvist fits into the "rear end in a top hat" category but he is also exclusively a perfect man.

e: the worst part about Mrazek is that he'll probably end up being a middling goalie (with flashes of brilliance) that'll give the "Ken knows something we don't!" thumpers fuel to the fire a la Brunner, Leino, Marchenko, Pulkkinen, Williams, etc. while they all conveniently ignore that at the time of their departure, they all possessed some level of tradable value and Holland gave them all away essentially for free because he has absolutely no concept of asset management

Mrazek's horrible no good very bad season was basically the same as MAF's. He's a good young goalie on a good contract. The worst part is that he'll probably be a better than average goalie given away for nothing.

I don't know if it's his actual demeanor or just the way his face looks, but Murray always looks like he regards everything around him with condescending contempt, like none of these dudes are worthy to skate on my ice, except maybe that guy on my team wearing #87, he's pretty all right

can you fuckin imagine how good mrazek will be with a competent defense? then holland will be like "see my coaching of him worked out in the long run" instead of "wow i really need defensemen now that lidstrom isnt singlehandedly carrying the line and kronwall has hotbrains"

yeah i like it but i'll still hate lundqvist for the same thing since he wears some other (loser) team's jersey

it was pretty cool that after getting shelled in nashville games 3 and 4 everybody was all over him about his glove side so he said "if they want to shoot glove side, i say go ahead" and shut them out* the next two games. not as good as the story of roy with the rats but i'll take it. incidentally it kind of bums me out how the fleury thing overshadows just about anything murray does because if it weren't for all the fleury business murray would be a beloved fanbase folk legend

Last season was his first sub .915 sv% since his first OHL season. Yeah he was bad but he's not the first young goalie to take a step back after ripping up the league his first year or two. He has a .913 after 4000 NHL shots. Carey Price had a .912 at that point.

i am curious to see how good/bad maatta plays away from trevor daley who's historically been a huge drag fancystats-wise and only good in that regard last year when he played most of his minutes with brian dumoulin. i'm not expecting miracles but daley's not exactly the kind of steady reliable defenseman to prop up a shaky partner and give him room to make mistakes

Vegas also has to build their AHL team, so MAF let's them draft someone younger they can stick down in the AHL for a year or two.

They actually don't really need to do that this year. They're partnering with the Wolves who sign a bunch of their own guys and, as far as I can tell, the Blues are also staying with the Wolves this year and they have a bunch of prospects that will be better and more AHL-ready than whatever the Knights get in Year 0.

If the Knights DON'T take Fleury, what will the Pens do? He doesn't want to be on a team where he can't be the starter so do they buy him out and trade him or does he stay and keep the 1/1A tandem that won them the Cup?

He waived only for the expansion draft, so they would have to buy him out.

It would seem weird for an article like this to be written if they didn't know for sure he'd be gone. I mean, Sam Kasan isn't in the front office or anything, but if there was still doubt I'd think he would have written more "maybe"s into the article. "Fleury ended his Pens career by lifting the Stanley Cup."

It's also possible they convince him to waive for a trade but currently he has only allowed it for the draft.
