News.com.au have run a story about some NSW Young Greens rapist. Does anyone know why he wasn't kicked out when it was first reported to the party? The story is loving awful, but doesn't surprise me one bit given the number of brocialist with a market solution twist dickheads there are clicking like on progressive things these days. http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/re...0724c085a9768e9

I'm not NSW Greens, but the guy is a serial offender. He's been an OB and staffer, and exploited the branch autonomy rule to avoid being booted out. I've personally heard from easily a dozen young women (most of whom have left the Greens because of him and people like him) and there's a string of complaints going back nearly 10 years. I have no idea why NSW has been so bad at responding to this - I have a suspicion that it might be in part because of their factional infighting and the threat of bad press. And he is definitely not the only one. I know of a number of Young Greens (who are almost all like you describe) who have been serial abusers and sexually harrass many young members, and usually go unpunished. Thankfully, in Queensland at least, those are shamed out of the Party (and in a couple of cases, forced to resign from OB or staffer roles), but there still isn't an institutional response or mandatory reporting/suspension system that it needs. Bottom line: it's going to be an uphill battle against branch autonomy and anti-centralisation advocates, but National Conference needs to develop and enforce a National Standard for Dispute Resolution and a National Anti-Bullying & Anti-Abuse Code. Chances are though, that they won't because it makes us look bad to admit that a small minority of our members and supporters are misogynists and abusers.

Oddly, in my experience, it's not authority that drives that, but a large segment of members and supporters who are willing to overlook internal issues for electoral gain. I've seen a couple of major staffing crises where, if this was any other organisation, it would have been dealt with swiftly and relatively competently by OBs, but any efforts to support victims, resolve disputes or punish perpetrators of abuse were torpedoed by members who didn't want public backlash.

Have a look at the Socialist Workers Party in the UK if you want an idea as to how it will go down. Hopefully it won't because the Greens are a bigger organisation with more to lose if they ignore it, but the organisational structure will make reform very difficult.

And everything in the media statement was covering their own asses and rewriting history to make it sound like they acted swiftly and decisively.

‘Absolute bombshell’ on One Nation Independent Victorian senator Derryn Hinch says an “absolute bombshell” will be dropped shortly relating to One Nation. “It’s not financial. Nobody’s quitting,” Senator Hinch told 3AW radio. “It involves a staffer, not a senator.” Asked if the public should care about the “bombshell, Senator Hinch said: “I think you will.” Neil Mitchell: Is James Ashby doing something? Hinch: Oh… umm… ah… Move on. Neil: Is that a ‘No comment’? Hinch: It’s a ‘No comment’. My first ‘No comment’ ever.
