I remember reading estimates that said things like 50,000 more deaths per year after the AHCA.

The death rate in 2013 was 8.39 per 1,000. The death rate in 2014 (first year of ACA market place with ~10-11 million newly covered americans) was 8.15 per 1,000. That equates to about 51,000 fewer deaths. I don't think this can be entirely attributed to the ACA, but that estimate is at least in the same order of magnitude as what the data could indicate.

Trabisnikof posted:

Depends, which year do you pretend we change from the AHCA to a better alternative. Leave the system in place long enough and you'll see millions die because of it. Add in increase disease due to climate change and it might be faster than you think.

It would take 15-20 years to hit 1,000,000 deaths. 30-40 years to hit "millions". I don't think we're looking at 30 years before the AHCA gets superseded by something better.

Edit: Dog tax?

These really don't seem like meaningful differences from a man who has called for religious discrimination and the execution of black criminals exonerated by DNA evidence, and endorsed torture, war plunder, and the bombing of civilians. Le Pen is just more specific about which fascists she admires the most.

It's the Arzying version of the "1000 years of liberal darkness" that people on the forums were unironically yapping about after 06/08. Turns out that one or two election cycles does not determine how voters are going to vote even two years in the future, but I guess we should read really deeply into this election bc it confirms our brokebrain doomsaying.

I'm not saying there's a huge gap between the two, just that one is a horrible American racist in a very familiar homegrown way while the other is the head of a party filled with open Nazi apologists in a country with a personal history of Nazi occupation. I suspect even most some French racists are gonna take issue with some one defending Vichy France.

edit: Actually, I should really be underestimating the racists as a general rule, but still.

Clean coal is the biggest god drat boondoggle and waste of government money.

Democrats were crucified for Solyndra. That was a lost $500 million investment.

The Kemper Project, the "future" of clean coal, has cost us over $7 billion so far without a single watt to show for it and no completion in sight.
