i guess it depends on what you find tedious...

it is a fairly popular game so clearly some people enjoy it

It is in fact super-duper-hella tedious, but you can change some values in some text files and 100% remove the grind so you only have to actually play the game and not re-re-re-play the game to get more mats.

Once you completely remove the need to farm gold or heirloom (by adding a 9 to the front of gems' values and setting the exchange on all heirlooms to 9-for-1 so you can create infinite and full-upgrade your town), the actual dungeon-delving parts are hella fun.

Then once you get sick of missing/not actually getting your dots, you can change the hit/infect chance %'s by raising them 100% each so they actually land on the level 3 monsters.

OK, now I need the thread's advice:

Resident Evil VII or PREY?

Things to note:

1) I am a scaredy-cat who had trouble with Amnesia (and still haven't gone back after nope-ing out) so if things are all jump-scares and nervous tension I am right out

2) I am a terrible shot and actually pretty bad at hitting what I'm aiming at, as I grew up a console gamer.

3) Games with respawning enemies can gently caress right off, I'm not playing them. If I clear a room, it needs to stay cleared.

REVII looks like it might be too scary for me, but PREY sounds super-difficult with constantly running out of ammo?

Which of these games are better for a single playthrough? I never, ever, ever play games a second time, but I am all-in for tearing my ticket and taking the ride once-through?

A few reasons. One, I tried to stick to primarily 4 player games. Two, I have no clue how the coop in Spelunky works. Three, I've barely played it.

Neither of those games sound like your thing. I can't really recommend either to you in good faith you'll enjoy one. You might have the most joy with Prey though, it's less scary and you can clumsily whack things with a pipe.

Prey has a creepy atmosphere and it'll get you with a fair number of jump scares. Aim helps quite a bit especially against mimics since they are tiny and can move fast. Enemies respawn but mainly just when you are revisiting old areas. Ammo isn't too terribly limited because you can replicate more, but it's definitely a game of limited resources.

So basically, stay way the gently caress far away from Prey because it's everything you hate.

I'm more of a jump in, play for an hour, go do something else type of games. My attention span and ability to have to spend an hour prepping to play the game is long gone. Suggestions?

From the gameplay I've seen, RE7 is great for survival stuff, also I think it tries to be more subtle with its jumpscares and creepy atmosphere. Prey looks like a fun action game with crafting and cool abilities, and if you're into sci-fi games you'll totally dig this.

Prey is slightly cheaper too, but take your pick.

btw The Dweller is a cool 49¢ right now and is a breezy, funny puzzle game where you play as the spirit of the earth attacking and killing archaeologists by dropping rocks on them, eating them or scaring them into running off cliffs.

VERY highly recommend.

Uh, neither? RE7 is heavy into horror so that's ruled out by 1 and Prey has respawning enemies, limited ammo and tense surroundings so ruled out by all three.

Can I play Prey on easy so I can actually beat the game and enjoy it? Difficult games make no sense to me, no other media/art in the world does that. There's no "you can't look at the bottom half of the Mona Lisa until you beat this nearby ring-toss carnival game"

It takes you literally 5 minutes before starting to change some values in some txt files. If you get DD, I'll send you my versions and you can just overwrite them if you want. After you've done that, actually playing DD is fun as poo poo when you don't have to scramble for every piece of gold or drop vital food/torches to make room for heirlooms to take back to town.

Speaking of reccs: Is Lost Planet 2 still bound by GFWL? I always want to recommend it to pals for some co-op fun, but I can't even play the game on my PC any more because of some busted GFWL login bullshit.

This is the philosophy I've developed over the years also. I play games usually on easy/normal to get through the story. If I want to slam my dick in a door for a couple hours I'll just go play xcom, I buy games for the story not to make me angry.

e: probably only pick up a couple sub 10 dollar games this time around. Necromancers come out Tuesday so Blizz gets another 15 bucks from me, and Battletech is growing ever closer to release.

I guess I might bite the bullet and pick up the rogue one table, not sure about the bethesda pack though.

Paranormal is one of my favourite tables, probably because it's easy to get to the mansion backglass minigame and get a bunch of extra balls and millions of points.
