Got a sweet anti-BCRA email from DSA

quote:

Yesterday, Senate Republicans released their Trumpcare bill. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) wants to push the bill through before the July 4th holiday.

What do Senate Republicans call their Obamacare repeal-and-replace bill? The Better Care Reconciliation Act.

What a cruel joke! This bill is even worse than the House version. You might have seen the disability rights activists who sat in at McConnell’s office being dragged away by police. They know that millions more poor and disabled people will lose coverage. People with insurance will pay steeper out-of-pocket costs, especially older people. Abortion coverage will be sharply limited. Why? So the wealthy get more tax breaks.

We need to protect Obamacare/the Affordable Care Act. Millions of people get life-saving care because of it. We must fight back against Trumpcare, defeat it in the Senate, and stand up for better: single payer health care.

Here is what you can do right now:

Click here and here to learn more about the Senate Trumpcare bill.
Contact your senator. Tell them to oppose Trumpcare by standing against the so-called Better Care Reconciliation Act and for single payer. One big reason the right wins battles is that they call their elected officials all the time. And it works. Now you can stand up and be heard!
Show your support. Download and print DSA health care signs for rallies, or put one in your window.

Why are we in this mess? Because we’re not organized, and because the Affordable Care Act, although lifesaving for millions, is not universal. In other words, private corporations control your access. In contrast, single payer is the most popular healthcare system in America. Most Americans prefer it over Obamacare. Even 42% of all Republicans do. But it’s going to take a massive team effort to get it implemented. That’s why I’m asking for your help today.

As democratic socialists, we know that health care is an intrinsically public good. Our profit-driven health care system is really a sick care system. It fails even the insured. The only way to provide actual health care is a universal program like "Medicare for all," in which everyone is covered for everything and no one has to pay out of pocket.

DSA is fighting for single payer health care for everyone. rAnd DSAers can stand together to get it. DSA’s work comes from you. I know that if we work together, we can accomplish anything. That’s why your work is so important.

In solidarity,

Maria Svart
DSA National Director

Brooklyn DSA has a pretty even gender divide, although it's still quite white. The Upper Manhattan/Bronx branch does as well, even though it's even more white than the Brooklyn one. I told a date the other day, while we were discussing our political beliefs, that she should look into the Central Brooklyn branch because that's probably the easiest one for her to get to. She's in Far Rockaway, which is in that weird section of southern Queens that's only accessible by the A train, which cuts through that part of Brooklyn before heading south.

DSA East Bay meeting was great. At least 100 people showed up to vote, i'd say it was over 150 but i'm terrible at estimating such things so i'm just gonna lowball it. I had to bail at the lunch break but they opened the general meeting with a speech by the CNA spokesperson who pointed out that CA dems are full of poo poo on the single payer bill. The assembly's speaker killed the bill saying it wasn't complete but the missing parts are literally waiting to be added in at the health committee which the assembly refused to give the bill to.

From the candidates and group sessions it seems like in 2018 east bay is going to push candidates of their own forward which is great because gently caress the democratic party forever

I don't know jack poo poo about development and zoning, but after living in a fairly progressive city for a bit, I'd say mixed-use development and an emphasis on walkability/bikeability is super important.

[Edit: I remember this being a pretty interesting read - http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2017/02/10/the-happy-city/ ]

This is why Batmans joker should just be someone who wants to inflict his laugh drug on the city, or Penguin wants to open up a illegal casino and is killing off enemies with psychotic penguins. Or just have it so that Batman has to teamup with Superman and Wonder WOmen to fight off weird alien experiments. Because when you try to go real world, he comes off as someone in need of a gulag.
