I'm so conflicted coming into the QLD state election. QLD voters seem to be allergic to supporting an actual left-wing party like the Greens, which are going to be hamstrung by idiots like Rhiannon. I could protest vote against the ALP, but that gives rise to the possibility that some extremely poo poo/dangerous policy is implemented.

So that leaves half-hearted support for the party with the thinnest veneer of left-wing idealism, which is currently angling to wreck the loving reef and has decided to reverse/abstain from every social justice position it could've taken. Like sure if you want to give QLD Labor a free pass on abortion because they didn't have the numbers to decriminalise abortion, but they could've at least came out with a stronger position. They could've come out with stronger support for Safe Schools (and even said they would fund it regardless after the trans kid killed themselves), but have instead decided to reverse that position. I guess all that outpouring of support for the LGBTQIA community was just empty words after all.

I'm really reaching to figure out what QLD Labor has stood for. They kind of rely on left-wing voters for support but have literally backflipped on a lot of the positions that they took to the last election. I don't even think that the LNP will need to campaign much beyond sitting pretty and not loving up, because really you'd have to be experiencing some amazing cognitive dissonance want to vote ALP as the first preference beyond "welp at least it isn't the nasty conservatives".

With all likely we will not have to worry about if the ALP or the LNP will win (Right now they might as well be the same thing as far as Annastacia is concerned) as surely One nation will get all the votes and save us all! :shepicide:

For this it's important to note that everyone means the nsw branch, and the greens are no different from other parties in that the nsw branch is by far the worst and most student politics dominated idiots in the party

I just do neato university student socialism which means I freely associate with a number of left-wing groups. Sometimes that means I'm protesting with the SAlties or the SAllies. You can do what you feel is right, I don't really have any real qualms with some of the established SAlt or SAlliance but the whole newspaper/branding thing is sometimes dialed up to 11 and the SAlties have been banned from Invasion Day marches because of it.

Not sure about the law but, as someone whose partner is an emergency nurse, I've heard about enough acquired brain injuries to never get on a bike without one.

Last time I was hit by a car the helmet absorbed a lot of damage that would otherwise have been absorbed by my head. I'd never ride a bike, especially commute in traffic without one.

Yes but just because you want to wear one doesn't mean you have to force everyone else to wear one.

Hey, you guys know your poo poo about bad employers, wondering if you can help me figure out how legal this is.

My partner works at a Target in QLD, A few weeks ago they fired the older supervisors and demoted the younger ones, including her, saying that that position no longer exists in Target QLD.

My partner hated being a supervisor and only trained to be one because the store manager pleaded with her, and partially because of the extra cash. Needless to say she wasn't too upset about it. However, on the first day of her demotion she found out she's still expected to do almost all of the tasks, the only exception being the one none of the supervisors disliked (organizing breaks)

She asked if other 'retail assistants' would be trained to count registers, access the safe, assist with opening and closing the store, etc and the store manager informed her that "Staff who have been here longer and have more knowledge have more responsibility" or something non-committal but obvious like that. As of yet there hasn't been any talk of training anyone who wasn't a supervisor before the change.

Since they're a Target, the only union anyone is with is the SDA, and her co-workers say they're being useless for some reason. (:iiam:) The store manager said he's talked to the regional manager and it's all on the level.

So should she even try with the union? Straight to the Fair Work Ombudsman? Or have they found the right combination of magic words to gently caress over their employees?

Edit: I completely forgot but one of the ex-supervisors who still works there has a photo of the work phones where the managers are complaining about 'kids these days [having] no work ethic'

There's no proof of the context, but it was because, when they tried to make the supervisors only get paid supervisor rates for 2 x 15 minute shifts per day, they told the managers they just won't accept the 'promotion'

The union was informed of this plan, but not the text messages.

You normally can't be dropped a pay grade under restructure without being offered redundancy if it's a genuine thing. Unless she's casual then get hosed and stomped into the ground.

Also bear in mind the EBA is probably a pile of poo poo that has flexibility and agility built right in.

You'd have to look at the agreement, and it probably has a clause saying something along the line of employees are required to be flexible regarding training and reassignment. Because it's an Sda agreement it's probably allowed but still lovely

Yeah unless theres some substantial change in the duties/pay then it'll probably be an annoying as gently caress legal fight that will cost a fuckload of money AND there is absolutely no guarantee that the SDA will even support you. How amazing is that!?!

Like your partner could go to the SDA rep and be like "I'm expected to do X for no extra pay, and they aren't training new staff to do X. Can new staff be trained in these duties too?" but I'd guarantee that nothing will come of it because SDA.txt

Amazingly the only positive stories I've ever heard about the SDA come from people who work at Bunnings, where (at least previously) apparently the SDA got some concessions or something but I haven't seen anything specific recently and my partner even started questioning the SDA rep about what they stand for and it was great :3

Actually it was mumbling and deflecting from the point. My partner feels very strongly about social justice issues and workers rights so it was quite funny to hear her talk about how the SDA rep was also a piece of poo poo
