I wish this game had generic ship chassis that you could stick different functionality in to instead of having discrete ships for science and construction. I want to make a battleship with a Science ship section that can also load weapons. Basically I want the Enterprise.

This would be Extremely Good. I'd make a trans-galactic armed colony ship just for the gently caress of it.

I really enjoyed CKII even though I was never good at it. I see that all the Stellaris stuff is on sale so I'm tempted to grab it but it looks even more complicated than CKII.

It's actually less complicated. If you can handle managing all the relationships and feudal laws in CKII then Stellaris should be a breeze.

I'd say that at this point Stellaris + Utopia is still significantly less complex than CKII + all the DLC. There's more economy management, but the poltical system is comparatively simple and there isn't any character developement or interactions which is the bulk of CKII complexity.

Hostile NPC ships do sometimes hang out near the edge of a system, where your science ship can blunder into them immediately upon arriving from the right direction.

THAT SOUND WILL FOLLOW ME TO HELL.
The Worst Thing is when you forget to turn off Evasive on your construction ships and they immediately hurl all of their work into the nearest star whenever an amoeba passes through the opposite side of the system. Had that happen with a ~95% done ringworld section once. :sigh:

In my current game there's a watchful regulator awakened empire to my north. While I wasn't paying attention, it gobbled up the entirety of my former neighbor to the north, and now it's faffing around with a 790K fleet. How do I even begin to take these guys on? My own fleet is at about 380K. Even after taking the ascension perk that gives me +33% damage against awakened empires, I'm only able to kill ~180K of their fleet, which I understand they're just going to rebuild after the fight. What kind of fleet composition/loadout should I be aiming for?

How do you convince liberated empires to become your vassal? I tried it bit was stuck with a negative empire population modifier or something so couldn't. Should i have 'carved up' the target into smaller empires rather than just eliminating them all in one go?

Yeah, that was my method. Slice off and vassalize like 4 or 5 systems in each war, until the main empire's small enough to vassalize directly, then force them to bend the knee.

I haven't played this since like a month after release and was looking to get back into it with utopia. I heard recently there was done outage about dlc pricing in the UK and they were going to drop the prices back? Should I wait for that or is it worth picking up now?

Come on 10% off on Utopia, that's kind of weak. I also haven't played since around release and was looking for a better incentive to start playing again. I guess I'll stop whining though because I'm probably gonna buy it anyway.

Why can't I cede planets to an existing vassal as a war demand? I don't want to liberate them and create yet another vassal, I just want to give them to the existing one.

You can do this by clicking and dragging the desired planets over to your vassal when you're on the war declaration screen. You should be at the top of your list, then your vassals below you.

Only lets me hand them previously lost planets. My war policy is unrestricted. Also apparently if you peace out and don't immediately vassal the new liberated empire they can vassal right back to your enemies. Glad I'm not playing ironman.

Jerks are using jump drives so apparently I need to do the same. There is nothing I can do to stop them from splitting into tiny fleets and harassing systems with precisely calculated fleets against my defenses or small fleets to counter whatever division I make. I can't catch them at all.

Vassals have their own war policies etc. AFAIK. Sounds like the vassals you're trying to gift to are set to defensive wars only, and are taking the moral high ground on your land grab warmongering.

Fight the war, take the planet yourself, then trade it to them in the trade screen while rolling your eyes at their hypocrisy.
