Just a quick question about Rise of the Tomb Raider since that game-specific thread seems to be archived anyway: the 20th anniversary thing comes with shitloads of random crap that's accessible in the menu under "add-ons", "gifts" and something. Should I just ignore all that when I'm playing though the game for the first time? Even if I like the game, I'm unlikely to continue doing much after I'm done with all the actual content. I'm not a completionist type, and there's so many good games to play that I don't play these kind of games more than once. But I do like to explore all kinds of stuff when I'm going through the game, and take it kind of slow. Is the 20th anniversary content somehow mixed into the base game, or do people access them afterwards? I'm loving the game, just a bit unsure how the make the best of it for the 20-25 hours that I'm likely to play.

The add-on packages are consumable cards for the multiplayer modes that add special modifiers to MP only. They won't affect the SP experience.

Actually the cards work for the SP score attack mode too, though I doubt many people play that.

There are a whole bunch of different outfits that each give slightly different benefits, I think some more have even been added with the anniversary editions. They aren't a big deal though, most of the time you can just go with whatever you think looks cool. You have the option of switching outfits once the game starts in earnest and you reach the first campfire.

Is there a part of Wolf TNO where it opens up a bit in terms of linearity, and is in kind of a european town setting in daylight, with those mechanical dog things roaming around? I thought I'd played this before but it's really not at all like I remember.

I am not sure if I want to join the "aggressive baby" faction in another play through. The "smarmy butthole" faction has been pretty good so far. Anarchy might be worth a try though.

WMain00 posted:Any recommendations on fighting games? Got Tekken 7 a while back. BlazeBlue? Street Fighter? Something else? Depends, are you looking for a good single player mode? playing with a group of friends you know? being able to jump online and get a game going with strangers? If it's the last, I think you're pretty much stuck with Tekken 7 and street fighter 5 (but street fighter 5 is bad, so don't worry about that). For single player content, injustice is apparently fantastic, and skullgirls is alright, everything else I can think of is either just an arcade mode or has a separate 'story mode' which is essentially a terrible visual novel. That said, there's a ton of great fighters on steam, here's some recommendations that are on sale roughly in order from 'new and popular or old with a decent scene' to 'good luck finding anyone else to play this with ever' Although even for the more popular ones you'll probably need to organize matches online rather than just being able to jump on and get games. Guilty Gear Xrd Rev2 (worth noting it also has a really good tutorial). King of Fighters 98/2002/13 Skullgirls Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code. Under Night In Birth Guilty Gear Accent Core +R Chaos Code -New Sign of Catastrophe- BlazBlue and King Of Fighters 14 are also on sale, but I've heard the PC ports for both are pretty bad.

Single player wise Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition and MK X are both pretty awesome. as is Injustice. I mostly play those single player and Street Fighter 4 with my friends. Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- is amazing looking and fun but it's pretty technical and the online was broken last I checked.

kender posted:I've heard Lisa is kind of dark, which I don't mind, but are we talking "This will leave you feeling super hosed up" vs "That was awful, but I'll make it"? The core game alternates between absurdist humor and extremely bleak, serious drama/horror dealing with some heavy themes. The DLC expansion is for the most part completely serious. It's a great game though, strongly recommended.

Someone was asking about older FPSs earlier, and I will say Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is worth a look. If you don't have CoJ: Gunslinger, get that one first, it's great, but Bound in Blood is decent and has satisfying shooting. You get a melodramatic story about some brothers looking for their El Dorado, and on some missions you get a choice of one of the McCall brothers, Thomas who can shoot farther with his rifle, and can lasso himself up to higher places, or Ray, the crazy schizophrenic who wears a metal breastplate and dual wields revolvers (always pick Ray). Looks like there's a demo for it on Steam so try it out first. Titanfall 2 is not on steam, not on sale on origin, but it is on sale on US amazon (Origin key) for $20, and has an amazing campaign. https://www.amazon.com/Titanfall-2-Online-Game-Code/dp/B01H0LFJWA

Can anybody give me some feedback on system requirements for The Sexy Brutale? The game looks great and it's on my list to buy for the sale, but even though it doesn't look like it would be that performance intensive, the listed system requirements are surprisingly high. At least compared to the old laptop I use for gaming. I've been able to get surprisingly good performance in the past with games that I shouldn't be able to run, but it's really inconsistent. Anyone have success playing on a lower end system?

There's only single player, unfortunately, despite a pretty cut-throat versus mode against the AI. The art is great, the music is great, and it's a nice chill puzzle game. Also on iOS! Good fit for phone game.

Q.U.B.E. looks cool in trailers, but is utterly forgettable and very easy for someone who has played the Portal games. Antichamber is a much better, albeit more expensive, alternative imo. Also, I think Thomas Was Alone is a game everyone believing in videogames as a storytelling medium should have played.

Is Homefront: the Revolution worth getting if I'm desperate for some new shootmans after DOOM and TNO, knowing in advance that it will be significantly inferior quality shootmanning? My primary purchasing consideration is how much gun porn is in the game. Videos make it look alright, but I'd prefer to hear it from someone else before I spend any of my sad grad-student-during-summer budget. And is any of the DLC worth it?

Yeah the default price is hilariously high especially with the slew of control issues and lack of dlc built in that it had a launch. The game should be 15 retail tops. Really for 60 bucks it should come with X-Men legends 1 and 2 and ultimate alliance 1 and 2.

So this game called QUOTE turned up in my queue today: http://store.steampowered.com/app/432890/Quote/ It's an ARPG thingy with hand-drawn graphics. It's EA, which I know is always problematic, but it looks pretty and interesting. Anyone have any experience with it?

Titan Quest got redone for modern systems/resolutions and bug fix patches finished in March. There's that Van Helsing game but it's been around for a couple years. Diablo 3 still exists and the necromancer is coming out/just came out. That Median XL Mod to Diablo 2 had a huge update a couple months ago. edit: Victor Vran, knew I forgot one of them. I got Empyrion - Galactic Survival which is okay though the devs ruin a bunch of areas by spamming turrets pointlessly. Apparently the Multiplayer is neato with goons but I haven't gotten there yet. 7 Days to Die and Subnautica are both up for $10. Subnautica especially is a good buy, it just had a content update. I really like Survival/Crash Landed games with stories. Wish I could find something else as good as Subnautica :-/

Having just started Hollow Knight after putting a few hours into Dead Cells, I agree with you that HK feels floaty and less responsive than one might like. The aesthetic and the sound design are great, and I'll stick with it, but in comparison, Dead Cells feels incredibly tight and responsive in the controls -- it just handles exactly like I want a Metroidvania to handle. Speaking of Dead Cells, anyone have any tips for defeating the second boss in order to get the second rune? Even when I've had pretty good runs and reach him with spare potion and decent weapons, he just annihilates me.
