Game....Blouses.

Bobby The Rookie posted:

They're fairly different, the 'Metroidvania' labeling for Ori is kind of inflated. Ori is more of a platforming challenge game with minor combat and puzzle elements, a Metroidvania style connected map, and an emphasis on item collection. The movement upgrades in it are tremendously satisfying and elevate the game, personally speaking.

What do you guys recommend for someone who likes metroidvania's with less/limited platforming? I played SotN like crazy but I can never get into pure platforming games.

Is diluvion any good? Its 50% off and ill probably buy it anyway but from the reviews i cant tell if its more survival or roguelike and apparently its changed alot since release so theres alot of conflicting info in the reviews.

Hollow Knight seems OK about an hour in, but the controls are definitely too floaty. It doesn't always jump when I want it to jump... Like to the point I thought I was having controller issues, but I'm not having any issues on other games.

It's real pretty though, so I'll stick with it and see what happens.

I'm not sure what people mean when they call Hollow Knight "floaty," there's no wind-up or slow-down momentum when you move or finish jumping, you have perfect air control when you jump, and you even have varying height levels to your jump based on how long you hold the button down. The timing and arc seems pretty normal to me? I've also not had problems with inputs while using a controller, it's 1:1 as far as I can tell.

Dead Cells and Subnautica are early access? I usually avoid early access simply due to the logic that however good a game in early access is now, it's usually going to be better later and it's not like we don't all have backlogs so there's plenty of other games I could play right now.

So how complete are Dead Cells and Subnautica?

The former is nearly complete and I'm going to pick it up this sale. The latter is still being built but it's roughly 85% of the way there and you can, at this moment, have a fairly complete and satisfying experience. Unless, like me, sea monsters loving TERRIFY you.

I've managed to be on both sides of the issue, so I think I know where the haters are coming from. I started playing on my non-gaming laptop on a long airplane ride, and while the game looked like it was running okay, something about the controls felt off. At home on my desktop, it felt like taking the training weights off. Same gamepad, mind. The graphics are a bit more hardware hungry than you might think for a 2D game.

I played the demo and I don't know what people are talking about either. I think "floaty" is entering that nebulous territory of being described to many different things, much like "Metroidvania" has been used to describe several games in this thread that aren't Metroidvanias

As best I can guess, without playing it, they mean the absolute air control and maybe the jumps don't fall quite fast enough. I could see someone feeling like 100%, very responsive, every-little-touch-does-something air control being floaty. I've seen the same complaints leveraged against Super Meat Boy.

I guess floaty for me I'm talking about the jump height, which seems slightly off to me.

My main issue is that for me it has been "occasionally unresponsive". Like I'll stop pushing right and the character will keep going right or I'll press the A button and nothing will happen and I'll fall off the ledge. I was using a bluetooth Xbone controller, and I swapped over to the old Xbox 360 controller and it seems better. Maybe it just doesn't love bluetooth controllers.

I had the same issue when it first came out. I didn't like the controls because of the wireless XBone controller. I too plugged in an old 360 wired controller and it was extremely tight. I was able to handle all of the arena battles without dying. Such a better experience when the little bug does exactly what you want him to.

if you are solely interested in single player i think something like doom would probably be more worth the money.

that said, it is a fun campaign with a couple very cool memorable levels

I think when people say that they're just saying that what is there feels fully formed. It's shorter than it's going to be and they're still adding a lot, but what's there is really good.

Then they're either exaggerating or glossing over an important qualifier that I've often heard follow that statement: ...except that it's only got fraction of the levels that the developers want in the final product.

Using a controller it almost feels like my dude keeps going just a bit more than I want him to, but I've realized I'm comparing the game to Rogue Legacy because it feels almost identical so far and it was tighter than it. Whatever it is it's making platforming annoying.

Is Homefront: the Revolution worth getting if I'm desperate for some new shootmans after DOOM and TNO, knowing in advance that it will be significantly inferior quality shootmanning? My primary purchasing consideration is how much gun porn is in the game. Videos make it look alright, but I'd prefer to hear it from someone else before I spend any of my sad grad-student-during-summer budget. And is any of the DLC worth it?

Kinda, but I assume there has to be better ones out there. Are any of the Far Cry's in your price range?

I picked it up during the last time it was on sale and it was ok. Definitely scratched a shooting itch. The open world and outpost stealing didn't especially do anything in the game, and very few of those are unique experiences. The gun list is only has 5 different guns, but each has 2 "mods" that, for the most part, make it a completely new gun.

Of course, the story is laughable but does make some sense if you remember that "North Korean" is really supposed to be "China". Also, "Nork" is used throughout, so fair warning on that. Lastly, each DLC is a single, linear mission, but you get all of them in the Freedom pack/edition for 12 bucks.
