quick question: For 7 years Republicans have been screaming about "repeal and replace" and then showed up with nothing. Last and this year, Dems and Hillary were saying "We need to fix what's broken and improve the ACA." What proposals have any Dems made about fixing and/or improving it?

Shear Modulus posted:does shark tank count as a game show eeeeeeeeeehhhhhhh I guess so, in that it's a Mark Burnett production and there's a rudimentary set of rules that the participants abide by (in that offers for proposals must total at least the amount they seek or they leave with nothing). But... I'm also gonna say that there's nothing going on there that you couldn't find *only* in the confines of a broadcast situation. The average person ain't gonna set up a giant, over-elaborate game of hangman involving a giant, two-ton wheel in their backyard. Honestly, I'm gonna say it doesn't count as a game show. But I also admit that I am in no way the final arbiter of that kinda thing. Gene Hackman Fan has issued a correction as of 04:26 on Jun 29, 2017 |

I went to a black lives matter rally / march to protest the Philando Castile verdict like two weekends ago. It started with some speeches in Harlem and became a march all the way to Trump Tower (56th & Sixth). I'd say there were 250 people marching, give or take 50. It was mostly BLM-affiliated people and socialist groups - DSA, Workers World, PSL, RevCom all made a showing. There were militant anti-police chants, lots of marching in the streets and getting screamed at by cops, flanked by a cordon of motorcycle police throughout etc., got to make a big crashing ruckus through the sedate and posh upper east side. It felt good, cathartic under the circumstances. The proceedings ended with a rally and some speeches in front of trump tower and then dissipated. On my walk to the subway there was a huge line of ppl, mostly tourists -- several blocks long, had to have been 500 ppl, so twice the number as the march -- all in line for the Daily Show's pop up museum of trump's tweets Anyway that was depressing

The republicans gently caress up with their abomination of a bill, Chuck and Bernie step up with a bill that acknowledges that ACA needs more work, takes a concrete, written down step to improve it then shout it to everyone who was/is/will be shook up and scared by ACHA to push a 2018 sweep. The left (me included) would grumble, but at least the dems compromised towards the left for once and that would be a nice signal.
