The Monogatari BD's and DVD's are still selling reasonably well, aren't they? Like, I swear I read somewhere that Shinbo Simbo's plan was to animate EVERY single Monogatari novel, but are they still selling as well as they did with Bake and Nise? If I don't misremember, the original Bakemonogatari BD's were legit competing with stuff like Eva 1.11 and 2.22 and such, weren't they?

Sales have dropped gradually for every new season. Bakemonogatari averaged around 80k per volume, Owarimonogatari around 27k.

For comparison, Attack on Titan s2's first volume came out last week, and the sales drop from s1 to s2 was 51,171 -> 6,603 (on vol 1's first week).

Holy crap. That's a pretty good consistency for a show that had its first BD/DVD out almost 8 years ago. I remember that shows like Oreimo or Infinite Stratos were considered super successful because they got past the 20k average with their first seasons.

I could just tell I was going to be pissed last week. It was such a good moment and of course they just shat all over it. This ep felt like it tried as hard as possible to make the bullahit right, but nah gently caress it.

Also I'm still just as confused as I ever was why any of the stage results matter.

Stage results matter in real life too. winning a stage in a big race like the Tour de France is a big deal. Stages let people other than the overall winner get victories and be noticed. And they change the nature of the race, as they create more goals than just get to the end the fastest

Think of stages like individual games, and the whole race as a season. Imagine if nobody cared about the outcome of individual football games, the only thing that mattered was who won the Superbowl

i also started watching the eccentric family on a whim and im way too tired to explain why it's good right now, but it's veeery good, glad that got a second season this season so there's more of it.

watching these two at the same time just makes me wanna play okami again tho

the mr. driller lore is just that mr. driller is the girliest boy and constantly gets smacked by his russian girlfriend, his dad is perpetually angry and bitter at being eclipsed by his own son's fame and his mom who divorced his dad spends all her time getting drunk and kissing people while writing novels and raising her youngest child and is also a space war hero who has gunned down dozens of deadly aliens, and that's why mr. driller is the best namco ip ever made

So Princess Principal is going to be an anime-original high school Cold War spy thriller set in a parallel-universe occupied Britain and written by Ichiro Okouchi, the guy who did Valvrave, Guilty Crown, and Kabaneri.

Strap in, kids, we're in for a wild ride.

Nope, Guilty Crown is where he was co-writer. Code Geass is as much (director) Goro Taniguchi's baby as it is Okouchi's.

Kabaneri literally had trainwrecks, but it wasn't a figurative trainwreck. It was just kind of dull past the first few eps.

I am going to go out on a limb and say Princess Principal may have more similarities with Izetta than with any of those shows.

He didn't write Izetta, that was a friend of his (same guy who did most of Guilty Crown, which was bad, but also Sora no Woto, which was good), but I think the subject matter and setting seem at least partially comparable.

if anything, the show has a generally good director working on it so i think it'll be an interesting watch

the worst thing he's done that i've seen is the trails in the sky ova and uh, that probably has to do with being an attempt at condensing 2/3rds of the plot of a 60 hour long jrpg sequel into two hours

He's going to have to work overtime if he wants it to have a coherent plot, though.

I'll probably watch it until I gradually lose interest, just like I did Valrave, Guilty Crown, and Kabaneri. It must be tricky adjusting a show to maintain interest for roughly the same number of episodes time after time. Though I watched all of Code:Geass so I guess there's at least a chance it'll stay entertaining?
