One thing I've thought about a lot without getting an answer is how parasitic "Conservative" culture has become. Much of their identity, the red-meat-and-guns-and-pick-up-truck schtick, seems to be formed not because those things mean anything to them, but because they are somehow opposite to their image of "liberalism".

Any time they get a whiff of bad news about Trump, they change the channel or click out of the story and go "No, I don't want to know, Trump is a good man, MAGA"

I wish the left had a designated, elected poo poo talker that they could send on morning shows to bait Trump into always operating at top-tier Trump. Like someone who was not a comedian or hired talking head, but an elected official that could go on television and be like, "dude sucks at his job. He's a businessman who is out of his depth. The right wing needs a leader, and Trump is content to sit back and let the pentagon run the wars and the senate run domestic policy. I don't know if he'll be remembered as being the worst president, but he's certainly on track for being the laziest." Trump's a narcissist, and he's his own worst enemy. On paper it seems like it should be so easy to trigger him into bounding into McConnell's office and declaring that he was now in charge of healthcare reform. The best place for Trump to be right now is smack dab in the middle of GOP bearuocracy, impeding progress through his natural selfishness and lack of patience.

eyebeem posted:Isn't their tune "we need guns to protect ourselves (from the blacks with guns)" already? From my experience when I was really into gun culture, the NRA is more about the nebulous, existential threat of a corrupt government oppressing the whites. Which is actually pretty funny, considering it's coming true, just for people of color. Not that there isn't also a thread of "protect yourself from the black hordes", there absolutely is, just look at any gun advocate's admiration for Korean shopkeepers in the LA riots. But I wouldn't say it's the "main" thing.
