Yeah, and apparently all the other GMs hate trying to make deals with him because he's always trying to fleece them/pull off another Brooklyn trade.

Yup. I've always equated him to that guy in your fantasy league that tries to trade you waiver trade for your best player.

I don't think Westbrook was/is signing that extension at midnight. There's no time to gently caress around. If Westbrook still doesn't sign his extension and poo poo goes sideways, you trade Russ and PG as late as February and move on with whatever rebuild you can. Oladipo and Sabonis weren't the key to a quick rebuild.

I find it really strange that people are making GBS threads on Ainge for not renting PG for a year

Chris Paul, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, all sold for peanuts.

With their assets the Celtics could be starting Al Horford, Chris Paul, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, and Thomas/Bradley if Ainge went all in. Who cares if you're renting George, that's a title team.

The math really doesn't back that it's very short-sighted. Paul George is an All-Star. The probability of getting a star in the top 5 of the draft is probably ~65%. So given the probability of that pick actually landing in the top 5 I'd say at WORST it's a push, assuming that PG resigning is a coinflip

your math is really bad if you think a rental of a guy who explicitly said he would only sign a deal with the lakers is better than keeping that draft pick, which they can still use to trade for someone who will sign a deal with them.

Ainge is annoying as hell to be sure, but Paul George isn't good enough to go all in on for a year. Stop making me defend that Mormon idiot or the equally stupid celtics, drat

That Brooklyn pick is also a crapshoot. They could sign a couple guys and be better next year. Chicago, Sacramento, and Indiana are probably worse than them right now. Orlando isn't far off either. It could be the 6th or 7th pick.

You'll have that pick for more than a year if it's a star, you don't have to give up a rotation guy on a good deal (Boston has no bad deals and can't do an OkC move where George leaving is still a moral victory), and the timeline for that pick matches their other assets better. They may be picking 1/2 next year and Paul George is a borderline all star, more like a top 30 guy than a centerpiece. He's had one really good season and a handful of solid ones, by the numbers you'd be hard pressed to call him even a top 30 dude I'm being generous cause I like him

That's not what he said, he said he's going to elect to become a free agent (no brainer) and as of right now his preferred destination is the Lakers.

Has any player been rotation-worthy the year after an achilles? The guys that come back seem to need a full year to recover

Seems like the wrong player if you're trying to win games and convince Paul George to stay.
