He's going to hurt himself trying to be a tough guy and interfering in play again.

There is an interesting nerdy theoretical question in there about just how high a percentage of your team's cap you can devote to one player who plays barely one-third of the game, even if he is the best player in the world. I suspect the current max contract is right around that limit

Please poison your relationship with McDavid Chiarelli. Please. Also quote:But when he’s finished, and he’s set for his life and on his own island, what will matter more? The money or the number of Stanley Cup rings he has won. What's more important? Safety and security for him and his family in the very tangible concept of money or the completely inconsequential and arbitrary idea that he might win more valueless trophies by being paid less? Hmmmmmmmmm really hard to say.

If McDavid goes down to 12.75 which seems to be what Simmons is suggesting, what the hell are you going to do with that 500K that you couldn't do before. The initial reports were that he might get 14 so he may have already done then that favour.

Does that mean jvr is on the way out? Or the leafs gonna roll with what they got? That's a lotta money and term for marleau at this point but that does give them a pretty scary top 3 lines

Of course, because the CBA is loving busted at the moment, they'll just put Marleau on LTIR for the last year by saying he has Boneitis or some poo poo.

Look, we're gonna have cap from losing Lupul and Hainsey by then, this is a roster that won't be adding much more, just replacing current players https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/mapleleafs

The Marleau deal is good. He plays a year and a half for Toronto then either hangs out on Robidas Island or gets traded to Vegas once his cap hit is significantly lower than his actual pay. e: Once his signing bonus finishes, a team can take him on for 1.25 million in actual pay versus a 6.25 million cap hit.

The AAV is terrible, but Marleau on the leafs is a good pickup assuming: 1) His Ego isn't the size of the moon and he's willing to teach the kids 2) the Salary cap continues to rise.

I know no one would dare question the institutional integrity of such a storied organization but him suddenly having a LTIR-able condition would be awfully Hossa-esque.

Patty has had a good solid few years left in him if we look at the last few seasons. So the big risk here is a huge injury and recovery time. Frankly the team has the resources to take this risk with a high reward. I'm sure Bozak is a player that will not be retained on at the end of his deal, leading to free space for younger UFAs to compliment the core.
