William T. Hornaday posted:Went to Alaska. I just came back from a similar looking Alaskan tour and I'm so jealous at your results compared to mine. I even rented a 200-500mm to strap to my DX body and only saw 2 otters and 2 sealions the whole time and they were both far out enough I have to 1:1 and crop the images a ridiculous amount, and all the detail is lost. Your whale shots rule too, we did a whale watch and all mine are just the same looking images of them just barely coming out of the water - I just wasn't fast enough to get any clear tail flips and there was no full breach. Practice makes perfect I guess!

Huh i'll have to check them out. I hope bad pictures are allowed here! I went to Busch Gardens today to look at some of my favorite animals there; the cheetahs. I'm a weird cheetah lover. Managed to snag one good picture though of a flamingo thing, or atleast I think it's a good photo. Definitely the best photo i've taken yet in my whole 1 month career! Wish I panned down more though. Oh well. this one i had to really edit lol and i even managed to mess up the focus, oh well. I need to learn how to make my photos pop lol and learn how to focus better.

I need to go back to Busch soon. You need to work on getting focus. Beyond that... keep in mind that animals are VERY hard to get good photos. Especially when they are moving. They are fun to take but you'll go through hundreds of horrible shots to get just a few good ones. For example of my 3 nice pictures above came from a collection of 50 I liked which were narrowed down from 400 I took in one day at Animal Kingdom last week. Keep your shutter speed high and just keep shooting. A few more: Zero One fucked around with this message at 03:53 on Jul 11, 2017 |

if you get out this way let me know Zero One. Busch is always a pleasure to visit IMHO, plus you can get p close to the animals there. Yeah Im gunna try going again tomorrow and work on focusing.

First time posting in this thread. I like snakes. I also have some ex situ shots I've taken of wild reptiles and some inverts, but don't know if this would be the place for them. Took a trip up Pikes Peak the other day and this guy was walking across the road near the summit. I went to Kruger National Park in South Africa at the beginning of the month. It is a magical place, and I highly recommend it to anyone who's not interested in expensive and all expense paid safari vacations. We rented a car in Nelspruit and put 1500km on it in 10 days. There were plenty of elephant and giraffe as well, but I don't want to photo dump. There were lion as well, but this was the best photo (but not the best look) I got of one.
