i thoroughly enjoy superhero movies. how much of that comes from just the movie itself and my own internal (and later external) criticism of it is hard to say

Oh man, yeah, and it's kind of weird past a certain point, like how you could be forgiven for thinking the real heroes in the Snyderman (and, though not a superhero franchise per se, Transformers) movies are the military rather than the titular characters.

I try my best not to read the sort of thing that Jacoby posts so I have a question that might be really stupid.

Who are these articles for?

The newest reading series was an article that was just this like 5th grade first english paper about how someone likes to drive their car. I have no personal relation to this guy, and, god willing, will never interact with him in real life. The only people who could possibly care about this are his wife and his son?

They talked about doing future episodes about movies and TV shows and one they didn't mention that I'd really like to see them do is Fight Club. It's one of those things that probably influenced the MRAs and the alt right like 300, but there's also an anti-capitalist/anarchist angle (although it's nihilist and reactionary at it's core). It's also not a bad movie compared to the other stuff they've reviewed, but there's still a lot to criticize.

I believe they're supposed to be the "connect everyday thing with overarching theme" kind of articles. So he's connecting his "freedom" of driving in his car to freedom in general. Just tickling those subconscious freedom implants that are put into your brain through culture, education and other poo poo so you don't stray away from the freemarket path. Or he's just rambling and trying to frame his boring life in a meaningful way (to him).

As someone who has been super into cars for a while now, this week's reading series hit way too close to home. Commuting loving sucks. I'm not even 30 and the idea of driving for pleasure or sport is starting to rapidly sour to me (but then again, I've always hated working on cars).

I drive 30-50 minutes each way depending on traffic because the rental situation in the city where I work sucks bad, and if I could get on a train with other proles and just split the difference with 40 minutes of vegging out self-medicating with my phone without worrying about the uncertainty of a 10-year-old beater car as a paycheck-to-paycheck prole, I would do it in a heartbeat.

During the election, I was trying to explain how lovely public transit is and found out that there's a bus stop 5 minutes from my front door on foot that drops me off right in front of my work's campus.

Commuting from my old place was 17 miles one way on super slab and would take about 25 minutes.

Commuting from my current place is 7 miles and takes 20ish minutes no matter which route I take.

Or 30 minutes by bus +/- a few because lol at American public transit, but I can do the NYT crossword or play Pokemans.

Yes but the drivers of the buses and subways are "independent contractors" and have to pay for the maintenance of the vehicles they drive.

A multibillion dollar conglomerate making it look like they are blackmailing an insignificant shitposter is precisely how you make this racist idiot into a martyr and symbol.

It's like the gawker case, do we really want billionaires and conglomerates to be punching at people who offend them?

WARNING! INTRUDERS DETECTED

If you revealed his name, you'd have Pizzagate types going to his house threatening to kill him and his family because he's a crisis actor actually working for John Podesta, who's trying to make Trump look bad with a false flag gif attack.

He didn't exactly choose to have the God-Emperor retweet his video. I am not comfortable with the idea that the lumbering idiot in the Oval Office could destroy lives simply by turning his gaze on them (or by drones or by nukes). We should maintain perspective about people who choose to go into the spotlight like Ben Shapiro or Ralph Douthat, and people who have power, and then you have groups and masses of people like the Pepes, and then you have the single private citizens who are embroiled in it all.

I think it's not that far off from the "lol red state republicans voted against their class interest and are gonna die without health care" line of thought. It's ghoulish and unhelpful.

Given that Gawker outright had a history of highlighting the awful poo poo the company did, I think that's a bit different from CNN e-mailing a dude who's getting a lot of coverage and going "Oh hey! Do you wanna state something about this". And given the weird sob tales on how the poster is actually some 15 year old I'm kind of surprised the same people that can see right thru Bana Alabed's twitter are somehow buying this.

You aren't wrong, but why did CNN feel the need to find the personal information in the first place? What happens when some lefty twitter dude calls Jake Tapper "Jake Fapper" or whatever and CNN decides it is beyond the pale?

This already happened to Bruening and he lost his job to this bullshit.

Christ, a more direct example you could make of was of that UN Refugee Program lady from a year ago that was Doxxed by Molly while she was in Iraq. At least there's a case for "Unknown has issues with someone, tries to out her information from an account that isn't directly tied in to IRL work, might have potentially put her in danger from terrorists" on that.

That's a pretty weak point in their favor. They claimed they withheld his name only because he apologized. That's, uh, blackmail.

CNN posted:

CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.

CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.
