Foreign policy experts are worried that US President Donald Trump could be caught flat-footed at his upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Group of 20 summit in Hamburg on Friday, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Even Trump's aides acknowledge the President's unwillingness to read the briefings they have compiled about his cunning Russian counterpart.

As a result, they have opted for their best chance of penetrating the President's consciousness: "a list of tweet-length sentences that summarise the main points Trump could bring up with Putin".

The "Twitter President", known for favouring the medium as the best way of reaching his base, taunting his adversaries and boosting his self-esteem, is apparently only able to conceptualise the world's most explosive geopolitical conflicts in 140 characters.

In a private meeting, Nixon promised the Shah whatever he wanted short of nuclear weapons and the blowback from that has helped shape US policy in the middle east ever since.

Just a thought.

collecting ancient artifacts and the like is a super rich person hobby to show your wealth but they're hard to get since most nations lay claim to any antiquities found in their territory and prefer to put them in museums and such instead of selling them to private collecters. so a reliable way to get these artifacts is from terrorists who loot them and sell them off to the black market

When we asked Trobisch for any information he could provide about an Aramaic incantation bowl from the middle of the first millennium a.d. (of a type that is suspected to have been widely looted from Iraq in the aftermath of the Gulf War), he provided general reassurances but no specifics. “I looked at the files,” he said. “There is nothing unusual that sticks out.” Later, he added, “Anytime anything comes up, we follow up very carefully, as much as we can.” Similarly, when we asked Lance Allred, the curator of cuneiform objects, about the provenance of an inscription from Iraq, he said, “The cuneiform acquisitions all happened before my time here.” Later he followed up by telling us that he couldn’t help us figure out the inscription’s provenance. “To research it,” he said, “would require quite a bit of work on my part.”

Sounds like the FBI did the research.

In a potentially massively important move, the EU regulatory body has decided that Google has monopoly power in the realm of search engines and will be regulated as a legal monopoly.

That means fines for every time Google promotes its own products in Google searches over others, mandatory public disclosure, Google can't use Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) for its EU sites, and Google can't effectively pressure other sites into using non-google features like AMP, HTML5, abandoning flash, adsense, or punishing sites that try to game the algorithm with hidden SEO work.

The U.S. government disagreed in 2013, but kept the door open to make a final decision later.

Could be enormous changes, good and bad, if the U.S. ever decides to officially weigh in permanently.

Proving knowledge is the hardest thing any prosecutor has to do. This is why DOJ doesn't bring charges on someone unless it is basically a slam-dunk. I have mixed feelings on how useful this is for us as a society. You could get a whole lot more people caught in the net if you lower the bar, but the rich fucks would likely still get away with just paying a fine.

Then again, they can promise a bribe and he'll allow it just long enough for them to go through with it and then lose the check they were going to send him. Best thing about this is that there will be so many fires trump barely remembers, this can easily get lost.

I mean, legally probably not, but man our media's already controlled by a shrinking number of enormous conglomerates, anything to keep them from getting bigger and richer is good.
