I know most people have seen this a million times already, but this was *my* first Thargoid encounter and it was special to me. https://twitter.com/hongkonghermit/status/883056433624788992

Ah, so that's how it looks like. Edit: I only started following this game last month and started playing it last week so this really is the first time I'm seeing all this stuff. Exciting! John F Bennett fucked around with this message at 21:49 on Jul 6, 2017 |

There's also a space-based encounter. Is the region where those encounters happen inside the bubble or do you have to configure for exploration and head into the outback?

I bought a ship (Cobra MKIII, I think? Two seater) and for some reason the game will crash when I land at a station or outpost. Not too often, but often enough to get annoying. So I guess I'll sell this thing. Kind of miss my Sidewinder anyway.

Decided to travel 300LY for the Engineer unlock, was in a trader set-up with no fuel scoop - I thought every system had stations so it would be fine. Obviously I was hosed. Bit of googling found these guys who are loving awesome - https://www.fuelrats.com/ - came and refuelled me enough to jump to the near inhabited system. And holy poo poo I made 5 mil space bucks for a single clothes run

Hmm, this is new... I was blowing up ships for the current cg when my game crashed. Now I don't have any instances available in the navigation panel list (nav beacon, res sites) in solo or private mode, but they show up in open mode. And mission boards time out in stations unless I'm in open. I thought whatever it was would reset eventually, but it's been over 40 minutes.

As i was transporting space capone i shot out of the mail slot boosting without checking for the fed patrol. We didnt make it to jump. I guess you should always scan whats outside of the space station when transporting rebel leaders. Speaking of passengers, is there a faction that specifically helps passenger carriers? It seems all focused on trade, explorer, or bounty hunter.

Don't think I could ever leave Space Cruella though.

Man, the sense of progression in this game is so good, at least in the early goings. Going from Sidewinder to Hauler was great for making easy money, but I started to miss the versatility (It's Murda). Then I got a Cobra Mk III and I'm like aww yeah, son. Those Escape Velocity feelings. It's also a masterclass in UI design, which elevates it beyond some of its closest recent competitors like the X series, though that game was simulating a lot of insane stuff.

I went back and retried that salvage mission, and this time it gave me a target and I completed it. Not sure what went wrong last time. An NPC still showed up to pirate me at the collection site (what an rear end in a top hat, all I wanted was some civilian's personal effects) but by the time he finished dropping in and threatening me I was halfway to the other side of the system.

I really wanted to love the X series. I got started pretty much the same way: start it up, do tutorials, flail around looking for fun for an hour, check the Games thread, watch some videos, and read some handy articles. In Elite I've travelled farther and accomplished more in 6 hours doing that than I ever did in an X game. So I hope in 5 years the first major expansion in Elite 2: The Dangering will let you play a mini faction all by yourself and it'll be awesome.

Even if they locked it behind some lore-friendly instancing like a private nav beacon, I would love some player owned structures!

Fuel Rats and other groups doing other sort of similar things also part of weird meta-conflicts between orgs all trying to do these activities because there can be only one as far as many of them are concerned. Fuel Rats are cold towards competition and do things to make sure no one else gets traction for a similar group. Little stuff like mass downvoting posts and bigger stuff like sending their competitors on wild goose chases, sometimes with a third party ready to gank along the way. They would deny this but it's true. Yes, there are clandestine fueling rights wars. A group which similarly cornered the market on escorting solo explorers back into the bubble to kill hostile NPCs or players which might kill them before they sell their data also works against anyone else who tries to set up the same service. This once caused a drama kerfuffle veering toward ingame war when they got into arguments about another group "poaching clients" off them. There are some other examples such as two groups which set up a sales service for engineer commodities trying to take out each other's storage ships so that they become the only source with inventory, before engineers stopped needing commodities for mods which kinda killed that activity a bit.

I enjoy these stories. Also, people seem to use the words factions and powers interchangeably. Factions are the smaller players that control stations and can be aligned with a superpower, right?

Are all ps4 players having performance problems? I'm playing on a slim at 1080 and I feel like the game is pretty smooth for how much is going on, it never looks unpretty, and really the only hitch I have is when opening the galaxy map... But then I just zoom out and look around at exactly how much loving data it's handling, awe at the scope of it all, then smoke some more weed while wondering if I'll ever make it to the California Nebula. When you rebuy a destroyed ship on the cheap coz of insurance, does the new ship get insured? Also Sagittarius A is at the galactic core, so that means we can travel to earth right? Is it a total let down, big hub, flooded blue dot, or a smouldering nuclear hellscape?

Dragged my arse over to that new CG system thinking I'd get my bounty hunting Vulture transported over, but it turns out asteroid bases don't have shipyards. It seems the following are used frequently, while Enforcer Cannons etc. are more a curiosity. a. Prismatic Shield generator from Aisling Duval (SHIELD STRONG, comes up all the time) b. Containment missiles from Yuri Grom (no you're not jumping away from this one, situational) c. Imperial Hammer railguns from Arissa Lavigny-Duval(railguns with more dakka, is used quite often) d. Advanced Plasma Accelerators from Denton Patreus (good, fast-firing PACs, are used a lot and are apparently good) e. Pack-Hound missiles from LYR (anime missiles, super popular) Note: many of these are favoured by PvPers, while PvErs often do without.

Personally I made some money from last weeks CGs and fitted out a cheap Diamondback Scout. I got over to the new CG with the help of a fuel scoop however now I am there I cannot find or see any RES areas. I can't even find a nav beacon. Does anyone else have this issue? What is a good weapon loadout for the DBS? I am using 2 small beam lasers and 2 medium autocannons, however the beams seem to always run out of juice really quickly. I was thinking of going full autocannons, or putting some missiles in the 2 small slots for the full Airwolf cosplay?

I'd stick with your current mix of lasers and cannons because cannons are less efficient at stripping shields. But try out different combos and see how you find it, MCs and missiles are all fun to play with. Though I don't use them for BH in CGs because I find it a pain to keep running back to reload.

I was chilling in the SWE2 chat a while back, and there was this guy who was trying to start a Fuel Rats knock-off solely because he doesn't like IRC. Because yeah, when I get into a jam I want to count on this random dick and his five friends being awake and online, instead of the huge, established group that has being fuel ratting super efficiently for years now.
