New Melvins out today. Have only made it through the "Death" side twice so far, as "Love" is more noise and will probably take a while to absorb.

It's like a Melvins/Snivlem split double album.

Relistening to Wounded Giant's Vae Victis tonight, and drat, these guys use their riffs well.

Heavy stoner doom with some psychedelia. Kind of reminds me of Headless Kross' last album, but with fewer instrumental sections.

Also wanna throw out a recommendation for Earthling's Dark Path, since it's still holding up so well for me almost five years on.

High-energy mix of black, death, and doom elements. I think they're working on a follow-up, hoping that arrives before too much longer.

Doom Side of the Moon dropped "Time" from their upcoming project.

I am giddy about this project. I know it's probably cheese and nowhere near gloom enough but it pushed all my good buttons.

I am not a fan of this. I am a big Pink Floyd fan (my all-time favorite group), and I usually enjoy covers of their work. This would be fine if I was seeing a band live and they played this cover as an encore or something, but I'm not digging the vibe at all. I would rather listen to Dub Side of the Moon any day over this.

I'm feeling a lot of these suggestions. My YouTube/Apple Music backlog is getting just that much more insurmountable, hell yeah.

Also that new Monolord track is real good. The intro surprised me. They've developed a great personal sound.

Getting ready to head out to a concert tonight, local show at a pub. All three bands according to the website I go to are "Stoner/Doom/Sludge." Local bands here in Costa Rica. I haven't been to a show for my own sake in years. I am going alone because my wife hates hard rock and my like, one friend in this country has other plans.

So, as I was leaving my wife kind of reminded me I had something to do early tomorrow. So being 35 and and therefore ancient, I went, stayed for one (of 3) bands and came home. I was the only gringo there, and seemingly the oldest by about a decade. BUT, the one band I did see was a lot of fun. Here's the bandcamp for them.

https://redheadmatch.bandcamp.com/releases

Unfortunately the recording quality above doesn't really do them justice. The singing was all in English, which is nice for me. My guess is that that's to appeal to gringos online for growing bigger?

It was loud as gently caress and I don't think I'm going to have any hearing for a day or two.

Melvins were killer tonight. Steven McDonald is a great musician, and a excellent addition to the band.

It's also funny that you mentioned the Beatles, because they covered "I Want To Hold Your Hand," and sludgified it so much that I didn't even realize what they were playing until the second chorus.

Two things:
1. Warning are touring the US with (depending on your location) The Body, Thou and Worm Ouroboros. Extremely stoked that we got Thou in Chicago.

2. Doomed and Stoned just released a Chicago comp. We contributed an edit of Anhilla III.

As I'm listening to more and more of this stuff, I'm finding that a higher pitched vocalist is helpful. My guess is that with the detuned instruments, it provides sonic balance and cuts through a bit? Like right now on Spotify I'm listening to Strong Reflection - Mars Red Sky and I can hear the singer better than I can on a lot of random bands I hear. It works well with female singers or just dudes who sing in an upper register.
