i like that they say it will take multiple years to get rid of the splitter "if they can", lol. they could literally get rid of them for tomorrows race if they really wanted to. like Rick Mears said in that article yesterday, they probably should just hack the downforce off and let the drivers deal with it.

F1/Grand Prix racing is the highest rank of auto racing in the world and has been as such since 1896. The Indianapolis 500 is the biggest race in the world followed by LeMans and Monaco. IndyCar I don't think has ever been more popular as a series than NASCAR (Early 60's was the last time they were bigger. They were "equals" during the 60's. 70's NASCAR came out on top), nor do I think we'll ever see that change. But I do think the Indianapolis 500 will and already has come back as the biggest race in the country.

exploded mummy posted:so big that this year's had the worst ratings in over 30 years The ratings were actually bigger or on par with most of NASCAR's in this current year. That's a very recent phenomena. Auto racing across the board is down ratings wise. NASCAR had some otherwordly numbers, and the Indy 500 used to be a "Household" event pre-1996 or so. Both aren't the case anymore. Also likely beat F1, IMSA (stateside). I want to say the ratings were actually decently high in europe due to Alonsomania, but that stat isn't in front of me. NASCAR as a whole has kicked their rear end in the ratings since...I don't know...when ESPN first showed a Cup race. Daytona was on equal footing with them in the early 90's, Beat them after 96 (along with the Coke 600) and then very recently got back to being the most watched race.

You know what would be really neat, if the position display indicators were green for cars on the lead lap and red if cars are a lap down or more.

I enjoy NASCAR not throwing a debris caution for a fullup water bottle, something that was obviously debris. I am also enjoying this race despite MT-Junyer dominating it.

There's a line that gets crossed from boring to good when the rear end-kicking is this thorough I think

Can I make a pre-emptive suggestion? Any pitstops in OT cannot be for tires. Fuel only. What's the point of strategizing all race (for tires) only for that to get thrown out the window just because of unlucky timing on a late caution?
