if I had unlimited money I'd first spend it on making everyone I know's lives immensely better and accomplishing all the dreams of my friends and relatives, then I'd start funding democracy activists all around the middle east to help them overthrow their regimes.

And even then, virtually all well off people aren't actually willing to make any significant sacrifices. Even if on some level they want to fight poverty, if you suggest anything that would involve a significant tax increase, they'll rationalize disagreeing by thinking "well, I want to help the poor, but maybe there's a more ~elegant~ way to do so without heavy government spending!" It's a shame in a way, because it's not like wealthy people have some sort of "bad person" gene. It's just that the very state of being wealthy fundamentally corrupts a person.

If I had a billion dollars I would buy a mansion and create the most awesome murder mystery LARPs. Also I could fill my spare time with getting properly into EVE Online as it is essentially a job anyways. Then I would learn to play Dwarf Fortress and get in some Civ 5 games once in a while.
