I think about that system a lot every time an MMO forces me to wear something that looks dumb as hell for the stats. Which is still a step back from what both City of Heroes and Champions Online did, which was to completely, 100% separate equipment and cosmetics.

I think about that system a lot every time an MMO forces me to wear something that looks dumb as hell for the stats. Guild Wars 2 doesn't have cosmetic slots but you can transmute anything. Considering that most people don't care about how they look while leveling (since most pieces look pretty good) the accepted advice is to level to max, snag a set of gear with stats you like and THEN make an outfit you want. Plus they have outfits that are one piece and give you a themed thing to wear over your gear. So you could be a heavy armor warrior in a tuxedo, if you like. Changing colors is free and only gated by finding/buying dyes that are account-wide.

Glad this thread convinced me to try WatchDogs 2. I LOATHED the first one and the second one being about kids taking selfies and having tight pants and hip haircuts put me right off. But a fair few people earlier in the thread said it was full of neat details and they were absolutely right. And it's not just the little things either, the whole game is just a lot of fun to play and explore. ESPECIALLY the "selfie tracker" where you take pictures of landmarks. If you'd have asked me if I'd ever enjoy a game where I played as a hipster taking selfies I'd have popped you in your chops... But here we are. It's just a really nice little feature that points out all the cool little areas in the game and it's great. Also the dude batters people with a soap on a rope. That's new and interesting.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is pretty cool. Besides making Coco playable in a good deal of the first two games as well as giving her more of a personality (And trying to do the same for Tawna before she was banished to the void right after Crash 1) they gave her some really cool idle animations. One of them has her taking pictures but in landscape! Right up until her phone explodes because it's a Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

I've felt for a long time that any game with a photography mechanic is worth trying at the least and pretty good more often than not. Beyond Good and Evil, Pokémon Snap, Dead Rising, Bioshock, the list goes on.

It gives you props to place around Kat, and has an entire Treasure Hunt mode based around taking a photo of a treasure chest as a hint and sending it off into a 'gravity storm' (ie; off to random other players) for them to find.

FAte/Grand order has a nice thing. You can only use one copy of a dude on your team at any time (minus friend units), so rather than flooding your boxes with dupes and taking the effort to level and skill them up you can just sell them off (after you get the dude's super up to level 5, but that only takes 4 dupes).

BioEnchanted posted:Horizon I really like Aloys attitude, not just in sidequests, like with "An Unusual Proposal" where her reaction to The ambush from thieves wanting to steal her spear is "You know who I am! What do you think your chances are of coming out of this well?" but during the story as well, like her replying to Sylens's assumption that she thinks the world is flat with "Why would I think that?!" and when you are trying to Destroy the Focus Network and her reaction to Hades, where she is freaked out as expected, but she still pulls through. I've played so many games where the main character fucks up on a crucial part of the plan due to their confidence/fear getting in the way, hell TV shows as well like with Gohan letting Cell regenerate and poo poo, that it's really good to see a character remember what they came to do and just do it. Generally she makes an interesting contrast to Sylens - Sylens is after knowledge, but only within his niche. Aloy is after knowledge, but she wants it all - she wants to know why the Eclipse are like that, I'm only a couple hours into Horizon but early on a bunch of warriors from another tribe attack you and Aloy holds off like thirty of them to try and save everyone else. I had really only been using a bow and a spear and so were they and the plot for the last hour had been less "robot dinosaurs!" and more "gain acceptance into your tribe!" so I forgot the setting enough that I started laughing when the bad guys back off so someone can bring in a minigun.
