I will admit that I wish there was a 16x10 144hz monitor I could have instead of this otherwise excellent asus.

yeah of course you do cause 16:9 is awful to use especially on a device you're looking at for hours every day.

Since we aren’t familiar with the rest of Eizo’s monitor lineup, we’re going to refer to this unorthodox thing as simply the FlexScan.

eh most of the time it's fine but occasionally i have to use the totally acceptable full screen mode and then everything is totally fine

if the monitor was taller the entire lappy would be less cool so i am very content

wrong

they are for people mastering content, there are expensive 16x9 displays that I dont put any UI, only debayered pixels that cost more than your car

well it depends on whats your computer distance. i usually sit so i cant reach the monitor with my arm, and at 100% scaling im comfortable with ~100 ppi. could go a bit higher, but wouldn't want to overdo it. hence, without universal hi-dpi support (which is not my use case), i'd prefer at least 32" screen if its 4k

Mar 15, 2013

some 32"-37" inch 4k would probably be nice though, given a new computer. would most likely be enough with a single monitor too

then your goal is stupid and you should stop

doing 4k at 100 dpi results in a 43" monitor

ah, the "you are holding it wrong"
which is why i said im willing to step up in dpi a bit, up to 32" monitor which is a bit under 140 ppi iirc. any more and the physical sizes is getting into "too much" territory for me, but i dont see why i couldnt replace 2x24" with 1x32"

owners at lastjob decided they wanted to do a big sales "scoreboard" display on the wall of their sales floor. so they got five ~60" 1080p TVs (with ultra-thin bezels), turned them sideways, and ganged them all into a single 5400x1920 display. their idiot contractor tried to do it on a mac mini at first and then eventually gave up and built out a custom PC in some 4u rackmount case and stuck one of those AMD eyefinity video cards in it.

goddamn thing was fuckin' janky as poo poo and any time there was a power outage it was guaranteed at least one of the TVs would fuckin' lose the connection and we'd have to have to talk someone through reaching around the rackmount to wiggle/reseat the HDMI plugs, because we didn't have any IT staff on location there.

the TVs alone cost a little over $10K apiece if I remember right, because of the minimal bezel requirement.

nothing like hosting a design review on a 1024 x 768 projector with permanent yellow cast because the capital depreciation plan says spending $1000 for a new one is impossible even though the company makes a billion dollars a month

same place also had a bunch of rectangular pixel 768p plasmas we couldn't replace because they'd been there for "only" 8 years and were really expensive when new
