Oh man, they sell those screw ups by the pallet full for practically nothing because it is still cheaper for them to sell 1000 copies of a blundered book for $30 than to toss them. My boss buys all the ruined children's books because kids and parents don't care about the quality so much, and she makes a lot of money off of those. She sells most of them for 10-15 RMB at most ($1.75-$2.30 USD), and still makes huge bank. She said she bought a 120 square meter apartment just from kids books alone.

The most common error we get is the upside-down cover. Sometimes it's an ink issue, but usually it's something backwards, upside-down, or the first couple pages are blank.

I actually read a good piece about it the other day, but I can't find it now. Old people have never heard of BuzzFeed so they mostly get treated like any other news organization, except randomly somebody's teenage kid will be all "DAD YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE INTERVIEW WITH THIS DUDE, HE WORKS FOR BUZZFEED!!!!!" and that's how they've won a shitload of investigative journalism awards in the last few years.

Well, that and the guy running the department looks for good young people (even if they don't have a track record) and pretty much gives them free reign to figure out their own topics to investigate.

Unironically, they're doing some of the best investigative work around in tyool 2017. They just happen to share site space with a vastly more profitable and vastly more popular clickbait empire.

Total Eclipse of the Heart
Very few things about China make me more annoyed recently than the "Rich Chinese person in Toronto or Vancouver who fled China with their corrupt money to have a better life in a Chinese bubble in the first world and who continues to Wu Mao about how great China is with no intention to ever live there or have their kids get educated there."

I also get really worried when my wife talks about wanting to spend a summer in China sometime, because I probably literally cannot do my job without real access to the internet. China just keeps getting worse and worse.

It's also absolutely true that there is no path whatsoever for permanent residence or citizenship in China. It's irrelevant that "no one would want it anyway," because it gives Chinese people no right to complain about European/American/Canadian immigration rules.

Even more than just that. North Korea might still be a decade or two away from having a working nuke and delivery vehicle if China had not given/sold them tons of technology/materials to make it happen. They have also allowed the regime to continue to exist by making sure they always have enough food, oil, and money to keep the army paid and the elites in luxury.

North Korea is a massive tire fire that China built, soaked in gasoline daily, and is now blaming on the neighbours who have been openly practising for the day it catches fire, despite China giving every neighbourhood kid a pack of matches with a map directing them to the pile. Once North Korea has a working missile that can reach the US, and possibly a working SLBM with the nukes small enough to fit on them, you're going to see them shelling South Korea on a weekly basis every time they get hungry for more oil and food.

First object teleported to Earth's orbit

Chinese researchers have teleported a photon from the Gobi desert to a satellite orbiting five hundred kilometres above the earth. This is achieved through quantum entanglement, a process where two particles react as one with no physical connection between them.

No? America is pretty tough but also gives a whole lot of opportunities and paths to citizenship. Also you can just be born there, whether by chance or design.

Hell we've even got something similar to the FFL in that you can join the military with a green card and get fastracked to citizenship.

The narrative is slowly but surely beginning to change, at least. I am seeing far fewer utterances of "soon to be the worlds largest economy" with regard to China than I used to, and I've always considered that a useful metric for where people think China's future power will be.

I'm also seeing fewer, "China is going to rule the world. . . any day now. . . just you wait!" articles, and more, "Holy poo poo guys, you see these economic indicators? They're not good".

The thing that I worry about is that the CCP is going to get entrenched into Canadian business and politics through a massive spending spree before their final death throes, that they are going to actually harm our nation's ability to put its own needs before the Mainland.

I first started hearing this from guys my age back in like 2005/6 (when I was also in my early twenties, and all the guys I knew were in university). Some of them gave up after a short while with "It is too different, we can't learn it." I don't think any of them went to China. It's like those weebs that drop out of Japanese 101 and then start keeping it to themselves, except instead of anime tiddies they were thinking they would make boatloads of money just for being able to speak Chinese.

I personally hope that VPN thing goes through for a month and every foreigner and foreign business flees and that begins the downfall of China when dumbshits finally realize doing business here is a really bad idea.

I wrote a big reply to this detailing Indian customer service and the lowly-man's position, or the "15-minute dictators" that take serious glee in the little bit of power over you (it's not limited to any one person, they are very equal in their disrespect), but I accidentally closed the window and now I am too lazy to start over. India is full of these kinds interactions, but somehow I still find the place less frustrating on a daily basis than China.
