The implied setting (as in, what comes out from just the rules and the descriptions themselves) suggests bands of adventurers roaming the largely unexplored wilderness, slaying all manner of random-rear end dungeon denizens, taking their loot, and trying to become rich enough to eventually become land-owners.

There's a certain libertarian mentality to bootstrapping your way to success in a virgin territory without the oversight of a larger government, especially when compared to the implied politics of a game like, say, Shadowrun.

It's also the case that Gygax was literally a member of the Libertarian Party.

Mormans are basically the protagonists in a strictly G rated villain campaign, where in the end you hold absolute dominion over a planet.

Eh, Shadowrun has punk aesthetics but runners tend to be pretty mercenary, with any revolutionary consequences of their actions being secondary or purely incidental (after all, their primary employers are other shady powerful people like rival corporations and the government)

It also varied a lot by edition, 4th and 5th basically followed general cyberpunk trends of not really pretending to have any kind of social critique anymore.

it was rigged, they spied on The Greatest Show On Turf, and Torry Holt should be in Canton. this has been 12-year-old Troy Queef's opinions about football.

(also the Rams should have been playing the Raiders that year anyway)
