I gave up trying to calibrate my 12WX and just drew then went to the main monitor to do color corrections when I was mostly done.

Looking, it seems the Monoprice 22" refurbish might be best bet for somewhat budget pen display, yes? From their website https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=12077 It is 300 +130USD to ship, though, which feels a bit steep. Is there some best place to purchase such a tablet for shipping to Australia? It also seems I would have to buy a monitor arm and screen protector. I am not too sure on this parts though. Ergotron LX and HP Single Monitor Arm seem to be the same product? For screen protector where do I look and why? This is really stressful. Edit: The refurbish is the old version and has issues like cord coming from bottom and being useless and uses battery pen. Oops. Maybe a Huion is better. I just use the CIntiq as my drawing monitor and have Photoshop or Illustrator's preview panel on my main monitor, I found the color calibration capabilities of my cintiq 13HD to be pretty limited.

I used my spyder5 pro to calibrate my knockoff cintiq and it wasn't perfect but it did help a little

You have to tell it what gamut you want to hit (older cintiqs sRGB, newer ones Adobe RGB) and what white point, etc. but it will get it dialed in as best as it can. Calibrating is about making sure your brightness/contrast/RGB sliders are set correctly for reference luminances and white/black points, then generating an ICC profile so the system can translate colors as best as it can. Some things are better than other but a calibrator won't suddenly make the display look more colorful, it'll just make it look more "correct" within its limitations.

My trusty old intuos has been behaving oddly recently and I suspect I'm going to soon find myself having to replace it. I'm not really keen to shell out the money for a current cintiq at the moment after some unexpected vet expenses recently, but I can easily pick up an old 21ux for cheap - anyone still using one of those older ones and is it something you'd say was worth it? I've seen some decent reviews/usage out of both the newer huion and monoprice ones, so I'm essentially at the point of deciding between the three of those.

I use the DTK version of the 21 (uses Intuos4 pens) and it works fine, albeit the color is not as good as the latest and greatest. I got it for cheap and have no intention of replacing it until it dies. If it's a DTZ (intuos3 pens) I would skip it.

I recommend purchasing a new intous if cintiqs are too expensive. 21ux has terrible resolution and gives you incorrect colors. I did my research before I started to save properly for a new cintiq and the Huion GT-220 v2 is probably your only good alternative if you want an actual display tablet. Your best bet is Huion GT-220 v2 or a new Intous. For the price of the Huion GT-220 v2 you can get a new intous and good monitor though.

Just picked up the new Bamboo Ink to replace a flaky Surface Pro 4 pen. It's lighter, more ergonomic, and doesn't loving work. Pairs, top button works, but pen tip doesn't register at all. Wacom's support site is garbage and provides absolutely no troubleshooting steps whatsoever. I bought this pen because I thought Wacom had a decent reputation for quality. Is that not the case anymore?

Huh, fair enough. Wacom has gotten a bit worse lately but it should still work (although their customer support has always been awful). If the nib isn't registering at all it's gonna be a driver issue though most likely; see if you can disable the drivers for the default pen? There'll often be a conflict if they're both running at once, although it can be a pain in the rear end to remove tablet drivers. also I noticed this: quote:The stylus is preset for the Wacom AES protocol. If you get it working, I'd be interested to know how it performs in terms of pressure sensitivity. I find the Surface Pen needs you to press a bit too hard for really light strokes, but the Bamboo Ink has much better sensitivity.

Hello thread. could I have you guy's feed back on sort of a dumb question. I currently have a Cintiq 22HD, and i'm on a windows 7 machine I built a few years ago. It runs mostly fine except for the occasional line jaggy'ness that pops up every one and a while when im trying to ink. I can fix this by restarting photoshop. I want to build a new computer and upgrade to windows 10. are there any major issues with Cintiq lag or line jaggies or drivers that i should be aware of? I do fairly serious photoshop/tv paint animation design work on this machine and I sort of need to to run with out any major issues.

I recently retired my 09 MacBook and can no longer use my old Monoprice workhorse with my new computer, so I'm thinking of upgrading to something a little more comfortable for painting. Other than Bluetooth connectivity, is there much of a difference between a (medium) Intuos 5 and Intuos Pro? I can find the 5 on eBay for much cheaper and that's appealing, but I worry that Wacom might drop support for their older tablets. Does anyone know how long I'd have until the 5 is no longer supported? Thanks!

I'm considering getting a digital art tool of some kind for the first time. What's a good buy for a digital art beginner? I've really only drawn with pencil and paper in the past, and would typically be using it to draw fantasy maps and other nerd stuff. For budget options, depending on how sturdy you need it to be, the Huion H610 Pro is a better tablet but can be a bit more finicky (I was having issues with the USB cord on mine for a while, although now I have it set in a place where it never moves it's been fine), whereas the cheaper Wacom options like this one are gonna be a bit more portable and easier to set up (plus Wacom stuff like pens that don't need recharging) but not as good for drawing functionality (although still probably more than fine for drawing maps and stuff). Keep in mind that, whatever tablet you go with, it's gonna feel weird for a while until you get used to drawing on it, so don't get discouraged by that.

I used a sub-$100 bottom-of-the-line Wacom as a professional freelancer for 2 years, it wasn't ideal but it was fine until I had enough money to upgrade. If you can afford an $80 Wacom, it will definitely work well enough until you either decide to upgrade to a slightly larger size or stop drawing digitally entirely, in which case you are only out $80.

I eventually had to superglue mine to keep it in place. I'd still pick it over a similarly priced Wacom, but that's mostly because I need space when I draw.

The Intuos5 is the original Intuos Pro, they rebranded it after a few months. There's a 2017 Intuos Pro, and it's super nice. But if you can find the pre-17 Pro at a good price, it's still a drat good device. Wacom generally maintains support for around 3 product generations. I believe they still support the Intuos4, so a 5/original Pro should be supported for several more years.

Thanks! I picked up the Wacom Comic from Amazon...but it's going to take a while to get here. Unfortunately, my options are pretty limited (I'm deployed to Saudi Arabia by my company)...and all the stores around here have are the more expensive Intuos Pro and Cintiq products.

I love the Microsoft Surface pro series but this is my second one to break down and stop working. First I had the pro 2 for two years, then the pro 3 for 1.5 years. Am I just unlucky? Mildly curious, because the surface pro artist guy has been reviewing a lot of competitors. I'm not sure if I will stay with Microsoft or switch to another brand.
