Just be aware that on Rabin's site, any image that fails to load (which seems to be a lot of them, thanks Squarespace) defaults to a still from the motion picture Theodore Rex depicting Whoopi Goldberg and titular dinosaur cop in a suit. He is not practicing some long game non sequitur comedy by peppering every page with this photo.

Remember, the dude went insanely into debt about a decade ago and has lost his job from two websites in as many years.

Hahaha I wish I'd read that explanation for the Dinosaurs pic like 45 minutes ago.

Rabin's site seems cool, although he definitely benefited from having someone else edit and proofread. I might chip in to the Patreon.

DP's recommendations require a lot of time and patience to bear fruit, and alot of them thrive by building off and playing with previous established archetypes. Considering that and your lack of exp with TV, I wouldn't watch PoI or You're The Worst. Instead these might be more up your alley:

Rome

I would recommend stuff that is more personal to me, but still don't have quite a sense of what stuff you like. But the above is a good start.
Man Rome got such a raw deal, imagine if it had just come out a few years later it would probably have made it to 5 seasons.

Band of Brothers is probably up there in my favorite shows of all time and its the best WWII movie/miniseries ever created and it will never be topped, I recommend looking at its IMDB page since there are a ton of actors you wouldn't believe were in it.

Spielberg/Hanks are trying again with The Mighty Eighth about WW2 bombers. They learned their lesson and the show will be about one group of people only.

The greatest problem with The Pacific is that stories of the PTO lack the...I dunno, grandeur? Heroism? Sense of purpose? Of the European. Just bleak tales of men in Hellish conditions, being driven to their limits. I thought it was a good series overall but it seriously took me 6 months to watch the whole thing because I'd psych myself up to watch it, make it through the hour, then see in the preview that the next episode was a Sledge one and say "I can't deal with that right now."

I remember watching "Yellow Fever" when it aired and thinking it was as good as a single episode of TV could ever be, and then two weeks later comes "Wishful Thinking". Season 4 of supernatural was pretty amazing.

One more recommendation, if you like horror and "so bad it's good," is Garth Marenghi's Darkplace.

The premise is it's a British supernatural medical drama from the 80s released in 2004 with commentary from its Stephen King writer/dreamweaver/lead actor and the rest of the cast. It's absolutely hilarious and there are only six 25 minute episodes so it's not a big time commitment at all.

Yeah I don't know much about HoC, but Modern Family is getting incredibly tedious. It's probably not in the top 20 comedies airing right now. Maybe not even top 30.

Some teeth long for ripping, gleaming wet from black dog gums. So you keep your eyes closed at the end. You don't want to see such a mouth up close. before the bite, before its oblivion in the goring of your soft parts, the speckled lips will curl back in a whinny of excitement. You just know it.
I couldn't understand why Game of Thrones would get snubbed so I went and looked it up, and Jesus Christ, "Winds of Winter" aired in June 2016 and season 6 fell under last year's Emmys. It's been a long time!

Some pretty odd picks for the Emmys. Better Call Saul's Jonathan Banks over Michael McKean for Supporting Actor is nuts.

Should probably have taken the place of Westworld's Anthony Hopkins and Jeffrey Wright.

Now you're just some QB that I used to know
Its strange that Ezra Eddelman was nominated for OJ: Made in America. I know ESPN gave it a theatrical release to get it to be Academy Award nominated, but do the Emmy's not care about that sort of thing, and as long as it was on TV its ok?
