I think he'd lose out on the benefits that depend on that if that happened. Like if Gon stopped doing his "Show me Rock" thing; if your limitation stops applying, it's not a limitation.

Edit: Read the chapter now, the lifespan twist makes a lot more sense actually. Spoilers phrased it poorly: The big deal is due to how fast it racks up, he can't do things like, say, maintain his Steal Chain for the days or week+ that would be ideal here, making it not just an edgy thing but a hard limiter on Steal Chain and other things, and also a reason to not use Steal Chain superfluously in case it gets an ability he can't get rid of. In that context, I like it a lot better.

Or, in other words:

kurapikas limitation is actually really good imo because togashi is not a hack so its not going to be handwaved until the very end of the story or never, like in most shonens.

I'd like it if the lifespan thing was handled by Kurapika aging faster, FFXV style.

Kurapika visibly getting older as a display of his Emperor Time usage is definitely something that's much more dramatic and impressive.

He had revealed before that the dolphin was problematic saying he couldn't dispel ET until he used the stolen ability and that in conjunction with him passing out repeatedly made it an interesting twist. Getting the hard facts of how burdensome it is in this episode was really great though and made me not even care about him showing off another new ability. I like the idea of seeing him age rapidly over the course of this arc.

It's Hammer Time!
Turns out ET and the increased longevity of nen users just kind of balance out and Kurapika dies at like 90 years old.

There's really no meaning in making beetles fight.
Or chrollo becomes friend with tserriednichts and becomes a schmoozing untouchable for 20+ chapters, sending an onlooking kurapika into early retirement

So I decided to re-read HxH post election arc and GOD drat this manga is so good when you are not waiting one chapter per week. It's almost as if everyone is so powerful that punches and fights don't matter at all compared to actual strategy, set ups, betrayal and other stuff.

This is the most hyped I have been for a series, ever. God loving Hiatus is gonna hit me like a truck :(

I want another Hisoka+Kurapika team up really bad, but I'm not sure how feasible that would be. I'm pretty sure Hisoka wants to kill the spiders himself and Yorknew ended with Kurapika focusing on getting back the scarlet eyes rather than hunting down the troupe. Then again, I'm sure there are situations where teaming up could be beneficial for them in this arc.

Assuming Hisoka is on the boat (probably likely), the next person he should team up with is Leorio just so that Hisoka gets to spend some quality time with each of the main four characters.

Alternatively, he could be growing older at an accelerated rate, we just haven't picked up on it yet cause the dude's still in his late teens/early twenties.

From deamboat to tugboat.

EDIT: Now I'm wondering what would happen if Kurapika were forced to fight somebody for an extended period of time.

Only the judgement chain is for troupe members only. He used his dowsing chain earlier in the york new arc as well, if you remember

Edit: beaten like zushi

Chapter itself was loving great, though I normally don't like the "shorten lifespan" drawbacks because they're always so vague I have good hopes it'll be handled better here because it's HxH, and I guess it at least defines how much life he loses pretty well.

That's the chain jail only. Kurapika explained that restricting all of his abilities to spiders would be kinda dumb.

That would be quite surprising. Hunter X Hunter can get very dark but ultimately it's a series about hope and doing the right thing and it's much more likely that his friends break him out of his hatred and desire for vengeance.

He's somehow gonna transfer both emperor time and an impossible to use ability into someone dooming them to death in, uh, like one week.

...huh, this chapter made Chain Steal (and the entire arc) way more interesting. Kurapika actually followed her his trainer's advice on being able to better fight with allies, Oito can now do more than just stand around and provide information, and Chain Steal can actually work quickly enough to be used in the middle of combat.

I'm super hyped for the high-speed politicking in the next chapter.

Between the now sure-to-die-young Kurapika and the crazy-rubber-gum-zombie Hisoka after them I would be surprised if they make it out of this arc alive. ...Which actually gives them pretty good odds since Togashi loves flipping predictable outcomes on their heads.

The cliffhanger at the end of this chapter is making realize that all the nobility politicking we've been exposed to thus far is just the tip of the iceberg, and that revelation is giving me headache. God, I can't wait for some of these princes to die off just to make things less complicated.
