Changed a few years back, like 6 or 7 years ago.

Basically, nothing changed for the pilots. The absence of hold short instructions authorizes the crossing of any runway along the taxi route. However, since ATC is now always required to specify either a cross or hold short instruction, this should never happen. And, if it did, it would be an error on ATC's part.

Ugh, the forced progressive on every clearance change...wonder who was incompetent enough to muck that up for everyone. Probably an ATM somewhere. The guy responsible for the "don't cancel an aircraft's takeoff clearance once they are takeoff roll" is.

I love (hate) the people who are that bad, but only when I'm on frequency and far away

Had a dude at RNO where the tower asked him if he had the airfield in sight, from 2 miles away, in broad daylight

First and only time I've heard a landing clearance canceled

Not quite. From the 7110.65, 3-7-2(c):
"Aircraft/vehicles must receive a clearance for each runway their route crosses. An aircraft/vehicle must have crossed a previous runway before another runway crossing clearance may be issued." You used to be able to say "Taxi to runway 36", which authorized crossing everything along the route but they got rid of that. I'm not sure precisely when though.

If this is a requirement it's busted all the time at KSEA... "Compass 5XXX on november cross runway 16C and 16L, contact ground point seven on bravo" is a pretty normal daily clearance there.

There's an exception for multiple runways with centerlines separated by 1000 feet or less, I think.

Yes it can be waived if they're 1,300ft or less apart. Waivers can always be made for other configurations too. DFW has waivers for certain operations that allow far closer separation than the minima prescribed in the FAA orders.

As long as they're specifying what to cross, or holdshort of, they're complying.

That would explain it, then. I'll just let you experts stick to the phraseology. Speaking of phraseology, I've been trying to clean mine up a little.
It's very easy doing this day in day out to get sloppy with it. "Compass XX is six thousand for one five oh" vs "Compass XX six thousand climbing one five thousand". (Not gonna say fife). Is it noticed or appreciated at all or just annoying?

I always appreciated good phraseology. But you can nitpick that stuff to death and still never get it 100%.

It's "Regional departure, N12345 LEAVING one-thousand two-hundred CLIMBING TO three thousand."

I mean, *I* always have perfect phraseology all the time of course. It's my coworkers that say it wrong.

Doesn't really matter. We're held to published phraseology in the 7110.65, but as long as you're clear, concise, and give me a callsign with your read-back, I don't really care if you emulate our phraseology or not. A lot of it is pretty inane, lawyer-written poo poo.

(I refuse to say fife as well.)

i'm pretty sure he used the whole runway in a light twin too because the tower asked me to look for him (I was still miles away) and he was 1300' above field height on a one mile final

16L is 9,000' useable or something like that too :V some people should have their licenses pulled

Niner makes sense. I only have issues with tree and fife because some insufferable asshat who finally failed upwards ALWAYS tries to make the use of tree/fife mandatory.

It's kind of hard to believe that I applied in August, took the ATSA in November, got a TOL and CIL in February, finished my security paperwork and MMPI in March, then my medical and drug screen at the end of April, am now just waiting on an academy start date, and they're already at another announcement.
I mean, I knew it's a long process going in. But drat. I can't imagine what it was like waiting three or four years for a phone call back in the day.

I think my little sister might actually apply under this one. I've tried to get her to apply under every single open bid since I got picked up but she has refused to do it. I guess she's finally growing up.

According to the first post in the atc reddit she's set since she has a vagina. Points off because she's not a minority though :rip:

The best part of that is, independent of her actual aptitude for the job, she'll be given countless opportunities to file paperwork on coworkers for sexism and sexual harassment because controllers are morons that can't behave professionally for any amount of time.

For being as "modern professional" as I am I'm still able to reign in the outright inappropriate poo poo around ladies when necessary. All of the ladies that I directly work with in my area don't give a gently caress and I still don't push any boundaries when they're around. No need to set yourself up. Some people just don't seem to be able to do it.

e: I just remembered that the only person in my area that has gotten in trouble for being inappropriate since I've been here is one of the ladies. An old guy in another area was retiring and she got some pizza because she was friends with him. Our FLM(that's now an OM) asked why he didn't get any and she did and she mentioned something about just having to give a handy. The piece of poo poo turned her in for it. He'd had multiple inappropriate conversations in the area in the past and he definitely had some after he turned her in but neither of us were around to here it to return the favor.

Dean Iacapelli can help you. But without elaborating I can't really help you. It depends on what your information is that you're requesting whether or not it would help you. If it's your goal to "Well they didn't respond so i'm gonna do it anyways" that doesn't really work.

Open wide.

I say it because it's a poo poo situation if that is pretty much the best course of action you have to take other than lawyering up and hoping the FAA grabs their ankles (like they always do when you lawyer up). If your local rep won't talk to your regional guys for you, you are hosed (because they sure as hell won't listen to you directly).

I don't know what the situation is because I didn't get a chance to read it before he deleted it, but I mention getting a lawyer pretty often and for good reason. Remember the white book. That's what the FAA thinks of you, and sadly most of the union guys have forgotten about it.
