Yeah, the Kid Rock thing is a decent point, it's just not especially well put. Which I'd normally think was odd for a professional musician but it's Kid Rock so. I kid. But yeah, if you're running for a government position (that is, a job whose main requirement involves communication) on the premise that government isn't good at communicating with people, being good at communicating with people would seem to be a prerequisite.

We shouldn't even humor them with "centrists", really, that implies they're staking out an ideological center between two positions. The Democrats are just Republican-Lite at this point. All the flavor, fewer cruelty calories. If they were actually trying to find a middle ground between socialism and capitalism then yeah "centrist" would apply here. Or capitalism and any other ideology.
