There are! My brother manages to grow a few each year, despite still living in our hometown which is about half an hour south of the Canadian border.

While they don't produce commercially, I know a number of people that grow avocados on their own (albeit with considerable effort).

It's kind of funny that the Republicans have become so addicted to blaming the Democrats that even when handed complete power, they'd rather contrive a failure in such a way that they can shift blame rather than accomplish something they might actually have to defend. Republican obstructionism got a lot of them elected but the side effect was having no unifying policy vision whatsoever.

Say what you will about the Democrats, but at least they were actually obstructed from doing things they mostly seemed to want to do, and managed to squeak out the ACA despite having their own competing wings of the party yanking it in different directions. If they can come up with a positive agenda and a few policy ideas to run on (a stretch, sure) maybe they'll have a shot.
