My wife loves eating cold salted duck tongues. They come in a little package and she can eat a mountain of them. I try to sit on the other side of the room.

CIGNX posted:also taking the lead in using renewable energy sources despite not actually connecting wind turbines to the energy grid From waaaaaay back, but China was attempting to undercut the solar panel pricing by using massive subsidies so that they would put everyone else out of business, and have a monopoly on the production of them. The problem was that other countries were making better panels, producing them very cheaply due to automation, and private factories in China were making them for western companies using western tech and undermining the CCP's plans. There was one solar farm in a news article that showed the first few rows on the outside of the farm were real, but all of the ones further in were just copies because "face". Naturally there were no transmission lines to hook them up to the grid, just like those wind farms.

http://shanghaiist.com/2017/07/18/chinese-student-destroyed-simon-birch-exhibit.php This video was on the news yesterday and I saw it was in LA and i told my wife "guarantee it's a Chinese student" and my wife said "why would a Chinese student be at an art exhibit" which I didn't really have an answer for but I just reiterated "I'm sure it is" Turns out my spider sense was correct

I would have figured that when they were setting that exhibit up they would have made some preparations for something like this just under the assumption that people are dumb as hell and there's always a chance an incident will happen. I guess the artist and gallery people were also dumb as hell.

I'm still loling irl over that Daniel Bell WSJ article posted a few pages back most people probably haven't heard of him but he's (in)famous in sinology circles for writing a book called "The China Model" which says that China is a glorious and ancient meritocracy with a political model far superior to democracy, and that the West should emulate it So I always knew he was a massive piece of poo poo but I didn't realize that it was because he went to business meetings dressed like an anime and believed he had a chinese soul trapped in his accursed white body

Nah I'm not reaching for anything. It is dumb to not prepare for that poo poo. Not really much of a stretch or some hot take. It's way less of a pain in the rear end than I'm sure the insurance process will be.

I've never seen an art museum stack anything together like that. Unless guest hair getting stuck to the art was all part of the plan. Hell, maybe they put them close together to get some sweet insurance money. Has anyone joked about the elite Chinese agent destroying a cultural symbol of Hong Kong and embarrassing the United States? He didn't file a claim... I'm always ready to poo poo all over rude thoughtless chinese tourists who through negligence or outright ignorant malice ruin poo poo, but in this case it's 90% on the museum for setting up the exhibit like that. I've worked with museums in the past doing layout stuff and there's some pretty widely accepted safety norms to at least make everything bump proof. Putting everything so close together is fine, just make sure the pedestals are SECURE to the floor. If you can't secure your stands then you make them wide with weighted bottoms so they can't tip.

I love the way the artist handled it:quote:However, Birch seems to have taken the incident in stride. "Crowns are fragile things," he said. "They are symbols of power. Perhaps it’s ironic and meaningful that they fell." That's hilarious. E: If you know who Damien Hirst is, go to this page on the artists website and scroll down: http://www.simon-birch.com/failures/

Someone tried to face culture me at a chinese seafood buffet. Me and 2 other people asked to split the check 3 ways. I gave the waiter 1/3 cash and the other 2 people gave credit cards. He returned with the bill split in half on the 2 cards and denied any cash was given when asked. We called over the manager and they had a heated argument in Chinese before he pulled the money I gave him out of his pocket and returned it. Faced! That poo poo dont fly in the USA
