I think a lot of the problems with the initiative process and the NPC elections have come because national has done a poor job of communicating with the chapters. I know they're trying their best, but the whole process has been really disorganized and it feels like they haven't left us time for anything.

For example, did you know that you can propose amendments to the proposals that have been submitted so far that will be voted on at the convention? Did you know that this is supposed to be happening now? Do you know how to do this? Me neither.

This is extremely accurate. I felt like I had just roleplayed an investigative journalist by the time I figured out that the two major platforms are called Momentum and Praxis and found their statements. It honestly makes me want to drive down to HQ and get answers because this is beyond incompetence. Like seriously a single, text-only, HTML webpage that they host and send everyone a link to would be a 1000% improvement and should be like a week project at the most. The convention isn't even on the DSA website's calendar!

Speaking of which I just realized I have no idea what this Spring platform people are talking about is. And is the Winter platform the funny satire one?

our local is having our monthly meeting this Saturday so all this poo poo should be discussed ahead of the Chicago trip. and in true STL fashion, we're following it up by heading to a member's house (with a sizable yard) and having a BBQ. also we're making a visit to a shooting range later on in the week.

Online, I participate in our local's slack, the dsa rocketchat stuff, use my basically unused facebook account to check my local's facebook a couple times a week, and I follow everyone from my local that I can on twitter.

In person I go to something once a week and my wife typically goes to 2 a week and we compare notes on any that we didn't both go to.

something like 50 new people joined today after there not having been any new people joining in a while, so I think there's someone looking at the forms now.

My wife and I joined as a family plan, so we had to choose one of us to use rocketchat and also we only got 1 vote in the straw poll a few months back, and only count as 1 member for our local, and national just like doesn't reply to anything so I'm like 3 months from my re-up and since national has no system to account for there being multiple people in a family I guess.

change of subject: thoughts on how to mediate/deal with harassment, bad acts, or fights/interpersonal issues between DSA members in different chapters?

With the level of hornt at convention looking like it will rival the olympic village, i'm sure there'll be need of it...

you have to just be a paying dues member and fill out the form, but much like the membership packets, there's a wait because the approvals are done manually whenever the (volunteer) approvers have time to get around to it

I'd take a socialist who decided to run over a politician who decided to become a "socialist", but who knows if he's going to regular meetings maybe he'll become radicalized, class consciousness is a hella of a drug.

Don't get me wrong, I would prefer that too, and I have a lot of concerns about some of Jaffe's supporters.

I just think it's funny that Jaffe joined a working group because I honestly did not expect that.
