That just seems incredibly rude to me. I'd understand if you need an object like a phone to focus on to be able to participate in a conversation like I do in face to face interactions (for multiplayer video games the device itself fills that function for me), but for most other cases? You've been invited to participate. That's what you should do.

Not every single online game requires 100% of your attention every second you're online. Like when you're waiting on a loading screen, for one huge example. Stop being a loving weirdo.

If you're in a queue or a loading screen, suspending the chat and coming back to it shouldn't be an issue.

Like.

The gently caress are you doing checking other poo poo on your phone in the middle of a match anyway? "Hold on, I can't help you fight the other team, I've got to check Facebook for 20 seconds."
Splatoon matches are a few minutes long and there's usually a few minutes in between while the lobby fills up. I shouldn't get disconnected from a voice chat just because I decided to change apps on my smartphone.

It's not a dealbreaker or anything, it's just not a good look.

I just wonder what important things you'd possibly be missing in that scenario. I dunno. Maybe my priorities are different. But that just doesn't feel like a big deal. You're effectively having everything put on mute for a little bit.

Similarly, I doubt you need to be connected to the voice chat app 100% of the time either. If you're taking 30 seconds to check facebook or text someone back, your world will not end that you didn't hear the 12 year old in the voice chat say gently caress or whatever.

You can't voice chat with random squdkids, if you've got rude preteens in your voice lobby it's because you specifically invited them.

I don't mind the dropping voice chat thing as long as they do a good job automatically reconnecting it promptly when back in the app.

It's mostly a question of how good Nintendo's thing is. If it's good, I'll use it. If it's bad, then we can just add a shitload of voice channels to the Nintengoons discord.

I hope that the phone app gently encourages the user to go take a walk after more than an hour of continuous play has passed, so I can read furious, purple-faced tirades about it on twitter from people who really need to take a walk and eat a vegetable.

Discord in mobile drops you from voice if you try to multi-task too.

I use the Playstation app for text chat and discord in phones all the time because the audio from the dualshock is terrible.

You can plug a headset into your phone on discord or the Playstation app and set voice recieveing volume to half and hear game audio just fine.

The only people complaining are the same people who masturbate to Dolby Atmos.

And the dualshock battery is only 2 to 3 hours so good luck talking to your mates if your gaming session is a 5 hour weekend warrior dojo.

So I kind of am okay with giving Nintendo's solution a shot cause me on discord on phones all the time anyway. That poo poo is basically the new IRC.

Again, it's not a dealbreaker. I'm just saying it's not a good sign if it drops you from your voice channel and requires you to reconnect. I don't know if it's intentional or not, but it seems like a strange feature to put in the app.

HDTVs usually have 1-4 frames of input lag between what you do in the controller, and what's shown on screen. This is most noticeable in shooters, fighters, and precision platformers.
The screen on the Switch is probably as fast as a monitor (9-17ms, or 0.5-1 frame).
