So, I got those vortex doubleshot PBT keycaps for my CODE keyboard. I think several of you said you had this setup. The CODE space bar has a metal stabilizer bard (costar stabilizer?). The Vortex keys have extra cherry stem receptacles but no place for the stabilizer to hook into. Can I just not use the space bar keycap, or am I missing something? Otherwise I think I am about to start pulling and replacing keys!

Most spacebars take inserts that have a little rectangular piece of plastic that the wire from the stabilizer fits into. You may have to pull them out of your old spacebar unless they're somehow built in (I doubt that they are). Yes, I finally figured out how to get the little inserts out and get everything back together. The first keyboard I took all the stabilizers out and apart, and had to consult Dr. Youtoob to learn that those dumb little nylon things have a specific orientation. For my second keyboard I was able to get the nylon things out and leave all that stuff on the keyboard making it go much faster. I think I managed to not break anything, but I didn't re lube anything either, so now I wonder if I need to get lube and whatever thing is needed to apply said lube. But really, with these keycaps I'm done. Well, maybe some lube. And then maybe learn to solder so I can make and ergodox. Or two.

I wish there was a 75% novatouch. I love mine but TKL is a smidge too big and I'm not giving up my DSA caps for anything. And before you tell me to swap the sliders, I am not far enough down the rabbit hole to consider my novatouch a "donor board".

My old cheap keyboard died recently so I went and bought an MK Disco Brown PBT. I would be happy with it except I ran into three issues. The biggest is that the left alt key does not seem to function at all, no keypress is detected by windows. Also the space bar appears to be attached at three points, the switch in the middle, and two smaller switch-like things on each side, but it doesn't actually stick to the one on the left, so it levers itself up anytime you hit it on the right side, which is unfortunately where I always hit space, so it slams into the base of the keyboard louder than all the other keys. Also I found random stickers with arrows on them inside the left control key because it felt kind sticky, I guess hidden stickers are a good reason for that to be the case... Hopefully the mechanicalkeyboards.com people can get me a fully functional keyboard, because the combination of tenkeyless, brown switches, and the PBT caps for a reasonable price is great, and I love how if I leave all of the lights off it is very plain and subtle. My first Topre arrived today and I've been messing with it for a bit. It's a JIS91 layout. The layout is really loving with my muscle memory, but one of the nice things is having what is effectively a dedicated AESTHETIC key shortcut, which is good for getting that sweet sweet VAPORWAVE street cred I've heard all the kids talking about. In all seriousness, I could see myself using a Topre at work, but it is way too light a touch for me and my current daily driver (which is just a CODE with SA profile caps). I think I need to start selling some of these keyboards. I'm up to 6 at home, a 7th at work, and an ergodox infinity coming at some point.

I have a squeaky key that's driving me a little crazy. Not sure if it's the switch itself or the stabilizer but am assuming it's the switch since I can't really think of any part of the stabilizer that would squeak. Is there a hivemind consensus on the best lube for keyswitches?

If someone really likes scissor switches, is there a good more mechanical equivalent, or should they just stick with scissor? I was thinking maybe Topre sound similar but I've never tried one of those out.

Is there a hivemind consensus on the best lube for keyswitches? If it's a stabilized switch, can you pull the key and put a 1u key on top or just press switch itself with no key on top? That test should eliminate the stabilizer from the equation. There's definitely a possibility that a stab could squeak. As for lube, not sure off the top of my head but there are several commonly recommended formulations on r/mk and its wiki.

I just hate fiddling with stabilizers so much that I was hoping to only do it once and, if I could use a common lube that I may already have lying around (so...WD-40 or sex lube, I guess?), just go ahead and lube it while I had the cap off. After looking at https://imgur.com/a/lhLqo I'm hoping now that it's actually the stab that's squeaking and either cleaning/reseating it will be sufficient or I can just pick up a tube of dialectric grease to fix it.

Got my Godspeed caps and slapped them on my Infinity 60% board. Was kind of surprised cause I got told my order was canceled cause I missed the "confirm you're still interested" email but some how here we are. Kind of regret not springing for the modifiers set as well cause it means I don't have a capslock sized Ctrl key so I can't make a "not all novelties" layout but hey what are ya gonna do. Keys feel really nice though, super thick, have a good heavy clunk feel.

I really need to resist my urge to jump at the Nautilus set as it reached the 99 dollar mark. I love the colours but really want a set with centered legends (i.e. SP instead of GMK). I'm holding out for the Godspeed XDA PBT set from Mitro who is running an interest check right now. That or Calms Depth if that ever gets going again. The IC on that is not moving fast all.

So, after getting my front printed caps a while ago, decided to pop in to Massdrop, and see what they have there, and I find these pretty things. Is there anything I should know about Massdrop, as someone outside the US, before ordering? I've also been using a Logitech G410 for the past week or so, and I can't stand it. Their Romer-G switches are tactile, non-clicky switches, and I wish I were able to articulate exactly why I dislike them so much. The actuation point on them is just really indistinct. Not like the browns I'm used to. It's like all the resistance is right at the top, and by the time the key moves at all, it actuates, but the actuation bump is really big, compared to the key travel. If anyone actually cares about it, maybe some more directed questions will help my description. Back to the store it goes, and I'll have to keep searching for a tenkeyless board.

I'd run into the same problem and was struggling. Now I've swapped out all the keycaps on my TKL, but have a full set of lovely numpad keys left over. I'd like to get a numpad to put them on, but am having trouble deciding on one to get. I'm leaning towards the Leopold FC210TP with browns, but it's 1) out of stock everywhere except a kinda sketchy Ali Express site that's 20 dollars more expensive and 2) it looks like the 2016/17 versions output true numpad codes whereas the 2015 one doesn't, and it's really hard to tell which one you're getting. Does anyone have any alternative suggestions for numpads, or advice re: figuring out which one you're getting? I'm basically just looking for a black numpad with the correct key sizes, like this (but in stock):
