I think I was angrier at Candy than the mobsters were. Every time she just stood there after being told to do something, I yelled "Candy! He told you to do something!" long before the mobsters did. Even yelled about how long she was taking on the casino floor. I could be a good Twin Peaks mobster. ...! fucked around with this message at 02:59 on Jul 20, 2017 |

Is there a canon read on whether Candy is really that absent-minded or is she just loving with the casino bros? I think the "she has nowhere else to go" line makes the first more likely, but she really played it down the middle. Also, did you notice how Tom Sizemore left the room in the same weird way Candy did when she went to get him?

I get a really weird vibe off the showgirls like they're indentured servants of some kind. They're wearing those ridiculous outfits while they make that dude drinks and clean his house and whatever and she has a genuine meltdown when she accidentally taps his face with the remote a little bit. Hard to know if they're just employees but are scared of their bosses or straight up slaves or what, but suit is hosed up.

They're screening Part 11 at Comic-Con Friday. That and the narrative appearing to get closer to Jeffries makes me think Bowie might really appear next episode. If the speculation about Diane receiving the dinner table text from him is true, that is.

Escobarbarian posted:I interpreted that Anthony/Mitchums scene as them missing how suspiciously Anthony is acting because they already had designs on Dougie, and so were more willing to accept the idea. Also I just love Sizemore's performance in that scene. He's such an awful liar. On top of that, they know he was the one who inspected/determined that it was arson and filed it that way and not the one who actually reviewed and processed the claim (which was Dougie when his scribbles turned out to be him figuring out it was fraud in a way his boss immediately picked up on). So even if he's not trustworthy overall, it's known fact that he did actually did hook them up in that specific instance. Between that and the Mr. Jackpots incident of course they're going to take his story seriously.

Even if it is sexual, I don't get a creepy vibe from the setup at all. Like if there's any loving going on, it's because they want to anyway. I like the Mitchum Bros. scenes, they have a fun vibe and I love Robert Knepper.

You know, watching John Malckovich try and do Dale Cooper, it made me realize that the thought of ANYONE but Kyle Maclachlan ever being able to do that role is just totally unthinkable. I really mean that. It's one of the reasons I think that Lynch gets fairly singular performances from a lot of his actors - because if he hasn't written a part specifically for someone, it would seem he spends an *extreme* amount of time casting the right actor. Whoever his casting agent is, s/he must be drat good. Even the actress playing Candie was freaking perfect. With the bit players in Lynch films, I honestly can never QUITE tell if he found the literal human analogue to the character or not - like the slow lady with the dog who lived next-door to Ruth Davenport. I have a REALLY hard time believing that she's a sharp and erudite women outside this show, no offense, it was THAT convincing. Same with Candie. kaworu fucked around with this message at 12:55 on Jul 20, 2017 |

Also, I know you guys probably noticed this or had it pointed out in a podcast, but I really did NOT realize that the intersection where Richard rode down the little boy was the EXACT same intersection where Mike confronted Laura and Leland with The Ring in FWWM. Things like that are so... well, amazing to me. What I love is that it's a truly remarkable thing that the show draws absolutely no attention to whatsoever. Another thing I had noticed but never processed was that the whooping sound that both the telephone pole (or electricity tree, if you will) and TMFAP/The Arm makes in the Red Room is something we hear when Mike's RV first starts tailgating Leland, and Leland looks back at the sound, recognizing it. Thing is, correct me if I'm wrong, but that is the ONLY time we hear that sound associated with something other than The Arm in the Red Room (in pre-evolved and evolved forms) and from his corresponding real-world counterpart presumably, the #6 electricity tree at The Fat Trout. I was also doing some thinking about WHY this telephone pole would be The Arm's real-world counterpart, and I had something of a revelation. Electrified wood. The wood for that pole would have almost certainly been cut from the vast source of lumber in Twin Peaks - the Ghostwood. And we know that it's "Ghostwood" for a reason, what with the various spirits inhabiting the trees. So then it just... Kind of makes perfect sense that The Arm is this really oddly neutral figure in The Red Room and in the show - I think he is a human spirit - neither purely evil nor purely good - whose soul got trapped or caught up in the intercourse between the two worlds by the place where his spirit resided becoming electrified and allowing him to exist in both places, and therefore have a unique perspective. Does that theory make sense? Or is it batshit?

Wait, did Anthony review their case and determine that it was arson, or did he cover for the casino guys and say it was accidental? Wasn't the point that Cooper unconsciously drew some lines between items on the files which informed their boss of something fishy? So was Anthony "lying" or just really transparently and pathetically revealing how desperate he is for Dougie to get killed?

kaworu posted:Also, I know you guys probably noticed this or had it pointed out in a podcast, but I really did NOT realize that the intersection where Richard rode down the little boy was the EXACT same intersection where Mike confronted Laura and Leland with The Ring in FWWM. One thing I've been mulling over is the phrase "Laura is the one", and I watched the beginning of the season again for the giant's speech where he plays a sound that can be interpreted as electrical noises before (or after? I forget) saying "It's in our house now". My friend thinks that it means something sinister is in the White Lodge, but I think it's more of a "the ball's in our court now" as in, the tide has shifted and we have the power to get Cooper out. That line of thinking led me to alternating currents, and then I started to think of other ways "Laura is the one" can be understood. Is "one" synonymous with "on"? In binary code it is, and if one is equal to 100% or 1.00 then it's can be seen as the phase of an alternating current before it returns to zero. If Laura is the one, is Bob the zero? This season seems particularly technology heavy compared to 26 years ago (no poo poo, I know, but it was a planned period of time that Lynch could have set up in anticipation of the growing ubiquity of electronics); is the modernization of Twin Peaks supposed to tie into Bob's existence and the fact that Laura still needs to be "found"? It's a pretty weak theory but I'll throw anything at the wall. Cromulent posted:I don't think it's batshit - it sounds pretty in line with how Lynch thinks about wood and electricity. The only clue Lynch gave for the new series is that it "Has to do with wood." I hadn't heard this and I don't think I'll be able to forget it going forward. To tie this into by crackpot theory above, Sheriff Truman uses a stick of wood to bring up his computer when he calls Skype's Doc Haywood (we thought it was weird to throw in Skype, but it really shows how modernized Twin Peaks has become) and when Jerry's in the woods he can't get a signal on his phone/the woods are interfering with his technology. And the Log Lady's wood has always acted as an antenna of sorts, a bit of primitive or otherworldly technology that belongs to a person who is dying as Twin Peaks rolls forward into the 21st century.
