HA! HA! NICE! WHAT A TOOL!
Sylvanas and Jaina were so extremely likable in wc3 that I don't think you could turn people against the characters. People would just get annoyed at the writers instead.

I'm not annoyed at the writers at all for Jaina's turn, it felt really natural to me after the poo poo sandwich she was served. She had watched two men she had respected and cared for end up doing incredible damage to the people, one through corruption and another through gross negligence.

And Sylvanas has always been self-serving. If anything, her stepping up for the genuine good of the Horde is an unexpected development.

WoW has a lot of terribly written characters but I don't think those two or Garrosh would go on a "badly written characters" list

Thrall was fine up until WoW, where he just made bad decision after bad decision, culminating in naming Garrosh "Hates the Alliance" Hellscream to Warchief when Zul'Jin and Cairne were both much better, more even choices.

Sylvanas would be better served as some kind of third faction leader since but they couldn't really do that logistically I guess when they made WoW years ago. When she and her crew are performing war crimes on alliance civilians and Good Guy Thrall's response is "lol who cares?" it makes him an even shittier character. Thrall is pretty much defined as a dude that constantly talks up honor but then shrugs when his allies and proteges commit horrible atrocities.

Yeah it's been a while but he was probably fine in Warcraft 3 when he was busting out and starting his own nation.

Sylvanas is stil a self-serving character, she openly sabotaged the fight against the legion by trying to subjugate a titan demi-dog and making her into a undead babymachine and only greymane had the sense to stop her, while everyone swoons about her

the writing is so bad

I mean, yeah, a corpse not even part of the Horde would still be better than Garrosh, but I think you mean Vol'jin here.

So I won 5 Loot Chests according to an email but when I log in game they are nowhere to be found. Anyone run into this problem? I'm playing on the NA server.

Was there a reason Thrall picked Garrosh as his successor instead of Vol'jin aside from that he's an Orc?

Thrall was fine while he was Actually Warchief in WoW, it's just when he started going "So the world needs me to save it so I'm totally going to be neutral in this affair. jk the Horde is the only group that matters" that he started being lovely.

And in super fairness Vol'jin (Zul'Jin was the Forest Troll guy who is actually in HotS) was Warchief! He just had the shortest reign of any Warchief.

Which is a shame because he was cool.

Fried Watermelon posted:

That, plus he's the son of Grom Hellscream (the superior Hellscream) and Thrall thought that made him the best choice.

If I remember correctly, Garrosh at the time that Thrall came to him actually said 'pls no things will end badly'.

Garosh was a flawed character that probably had the most depth in the bunch of bad lore writing of warcraft and he had good and a lot of bad moments, after the whiny fan base decided they didn't like a character that wasn't flat as card board ,the writers made him go "crazy"

I mean Garrosh as a villain is even better than what he was before so it worked out.

As someone who hates Thrall, I though he was perfectly fine even through Wrath of the Lich King. Once Cata happened it went more and more downhill every expansion with him. The Thrall/Garrosh fight is stupid. Also Vol'jin sucks. Cairne is alright I guess but almost as boring as Vol'jin. Thankfully Vol'jin died. Gallywix should be warchief. Peace.

Monkey King Samuro actually lets me enjoy the character. I didn't like Samuro's original voice because it always seemed like a caricature of a samurai but with Monkey King he gets all silly and the character himself seems to be having fun

If I remember correctly, Garrosh at the time that Thrall came to him actually said 'pls no things will end badly'.

Basically, Thrall had three reasons for choosing Garrosh:
1) He was an orc. Thrall felt his critics among the orcish part of the Horde would never stand for a non-orc being made Warchief. That eliminates Cairne, Vol'jin, Lothemar and Sylvanas by default, not to mention that despite being allied with the Forsaken, there's no way in hell he trusted Sylvanas enough to put her in charge, especially after the Wrathgate.
2) He was young. Thrall felt like if he put Etrigg or Varok Saurfang in charge, it'd be unpopular with the majority of the Horde because they're kinda old and set in their ways, whereas a younger warchief would bring a fresh perspective and new ideas.
3) He was a war hero. The orcs, and most of the rest of the Horde, are a martial society, and more likely to listen to and follow orders from a war hero who's won glory and honor out on the battlefield.

Thrall straight up told Cairne before he left that he would have originally picked Dranosh Saurfang, Varok's son, as his first choice... but Dranosh kinda got his rear end killed by trying to Leeroy Jenkins the Lich King at the Wrathgate, which kinda left Garrosh, son of Hellscream, as the only choice by default in Thrall's eyes.

Continuing from this, Thrall was hoping that being Warchief would teach Garrosh some patience and responsibility. By the time it became obvious that it really wasn't working, Thrall was in no position to just march in and kick Garrosh out; Thrall had spent the better part of a year keeping the world from imploding into the Maelstrom and Garrosh had taken that time to create a cult of personality around himself, so it wasn't until Garrosh had thoroughly pissed off everybody that they were able to throw in an assault on Orgrimmar in order to kick him out.

I have an instinctive negative reaction to Garrosh in any media because he precedes "ironic" fascists crawling out of the woodwork yelling GARROSH DID NOTHING WRONG MAKE AZEROTH GREAT AGAIN but no actually he was just trying to do what was best for His People™ by assassinating political dissidents and purging undesirable races

In any case

The game needs more non-assassins and non-warcraft heroes. Suggestions:

Starcraft:

- Science Vessel Support: Grants vision, casts shields, and messes with enemy's shields and max hp
- Dragoon/Immortal Ranged Warrior: Good laning and tower pushing, punishes high burst/percentage damage assassins
- Viper Support: Disrupts enemy positioning, blinds and drops persistent AoE effects

Overwatch:

- Junkrat Specialist: Great tower pushing, traps and knockbacks
- Ana Support: A toolkit of buffs and debuffs, has a "clip" of shots that can target allies or enemies
- Winston Specialist: Clears minions like crazy, survivable and can jump from lane to lane quickly

Diablo:

I want the D2 Assassin. She wasn't particularly strong in D2, but she had the widest variety of fun skills. Strikes/Finishers, Traps, Mind Blast, Dragon Flight, Claw mastery/block, Shadow warriors/master, Fade, Burst of Speed, Blade Shield. The only problem is that her strikes/finishers would probably be a bit too similar to Valeera, but they can go in so many directions with her.
