There's a 4 minute scene of a silhouette of a tall mid-50s black man working in the field. He's exhausted and has clearly been working all day. Was there a Marwyn-alike in the show that ran off to Dany when Sam showed up? Is she just going to be maesterless during her stay on abandoned island? Does Dany expect Tyrion to be able to reach the raven window?

Who needs ravens when Euron can effortlessly sail from one side of Westeros to the other just to chat with Cersei? This is the kind of detail that the books are all about but the show doesn't care about in the slightest.

At this point I will be happy when we (eventually) get Winds of Winter, but it's beginning to look like GURM is gonna croak before he has any chance to finish Dream of Spring. So if he will be adamant about no one being able to continue his work, the TV show might be the only source of an ending for the series we'll get?

If we assume that he releases TWOW 2018/2019 the predicted release date of DoS would be somewhere around 2030, when GURM is around 80.

So it might happen.

The show is going to start and end in the time it's taken him to write one book, and he might not even be done with the book then (he won't). Anyone who wants an ending to the story has no choice but to watch the show, and honestly it's a smarter decision than waiting for him

I kinda get GRUM. This is his big breakthrough, his only shot at immortality and he doesn't want to blow it. He probably thinks (correctly) that it would be better to leave this work unfinished than to release a mediocre book and leave with a wet fart. What happened with Feast and Dance scared him.

I think this is really the fault of the American entertainment industry. If he was still poor he would need the income from the book and poo poo it out. Also, his work should have only become famous after his death. Blame America and also the people buying his books instead of pirating them.

Really neat find. The wall from Season 6 to Season 7 intro. Notice the outskirts look to be freezing in Season 7 due to winter? White walkers are definitely going around the wall.

There hasn't been a winter in like hundreds or thousands of years....I think? Could be wrong.

Also don't know how if the Night King just rose up again recently or if he was always there just chilling and waiting and building a big enough army over time.

That's not true at all. Westerosi seasons last years, not centuries. The summer during which the show starts had been going for nine years. Presumably it was winter right before that.

e: even the nine year summer was considered to be unusually long.

Oh ok. Well I dunno why they didn't do that in other winters. I guess the best explanation is that he was waiting to build a big enough army of the dead over a long period of time before attacking.

My guess is that previous winters were too short for them to accomplish whatever they're trying to do, or alternatively that they were waiting for some necessary magical ingredient (Bran, dragons, whatever) to complete their plan. We don't really even know what they're trying to do apart from that it seems to entail a lot of people dying, so it's impossible to be sure.

While there have been winters before, White Walkers have not appeared for quite some time. The only time that they seem to have fought with humanity seems to have been The Long Night.

The White Walkers appeared before the winter started, and although long summers usually correspond with long winters, it's not given. I struggle a bit to see why the White Walkers would appear in the summer.

I've been saying for a good 10 years now that if Gurm would just admit that he's done, stalled, not sure where to go, whatever, with ASOIAF then I wouldn't hate him for it, but he insists that he's still writing these books like an rear end in a top hat. I completely understand selling out and wanting to just enjoy life, we'd all do it, he's just lucky enough that he had something to sell out with. If he wants to spend his years dawdling around blogging about football, buying movie theaters and wolf preserves, and perving out on girls a third of his age at nerd conventions, more power to him, but just admit that's the plan and the books are done you absolute fucker.

It seems like it would be so easy for him to just hire a couple superfans, make them sign NDAs, and have them ghostwrite the book for him after he tells them his plan for the ending.

I have to imagine the publisher has pushed for this idea or something similar and he's just got too big an ego to accept it.

If he does that he'll be hounded to farm out the story to another writer and just oversee it. I get the feeling he's too invested from an "ownership" perspective to do that either.

It's not that easy. As soon as he officially retires from ASOIAF he is no longer the American Tolkien working on his magnum opus, he is just a retired writer who failed to finish his work and disappointed his fanbase. Gotta keep the facade intact.

He has literally said that he will have his notes destroyed upon his death so nobody else can finish the book because he got miffed that the internet noticed that he's old and fat and isn't writing. Mostly as a reaction to Robert Jordan dying and Brandon Sanderson finishing off his giant meandering fantasy epic (and doing a very good job too).

Which is of course a lie because he hasn't actually got any notes to destroy.
