The China-pandering is always very obvious and very specific once you've smelt it. China must be depicted as a modern technological equal and innovator on the world stage, china must be depicted as having international clout and respect, China must be shown as always willing to help and cooperate for the greater good and peace.

China has graciously given their vast technological aid to support to the heroes, and it's just as good as western stuff!
China has sent its best agent to help the hero, who is very smart and capable and has no time for politics because she's here to help and her gear is just as good as western gear maybe even better!!
China's military has joined the fight and helped turn the tide like that scene in lord of the rings when gandalf rides down the hill with all the horseys, it's because China is always there to help and has the BIG PICTURE in mind for PEACE in world!
China is important and relevant and a real power, the characters talk about it!

I'm glad that the movies that pander the most to China tend to flop or get panned

So I just learned that the human flesh search engine just means people working together to doxx someone. All this time I thought it was some clever program a Chinese basement troll created to do an imagine search on grainy blackmail sex tapes or anonymous selfies to find out which girl to harass. I mean, why else would there be a billion videos and articles by smiley white people all excited about this crazy need thing those Chinese invented?

Chinese are so good at convincing people they've done something new its a wonder they haven't actually used that cleverness to actually be innovative

It's actually really easy to convince people something old is new just by dressing it up properly or playing on your average joe's ignorance

Last night I had to explain to people in the D&D thread that no, China didn't invent the crossing light that shows numbers, nor did they invent assigned seating in movie theatres (!?!?)

I'm really waiting for remakes of classic movies to be full of lovely china pandering. Think of something like Saving Private Ryan. After knocking out the bunkers in the opening scene, the men have some rest and chow. They arrive at the field kitchen and everybody gets plenty of rice. Tom Hanks looks at the bowl ponderously. He reaches into his pockets and pulls out a case with a pair of chopsticks.

The men stare in disbelief.

Music sets in and he looks at it sagely.

"China's contribution to the war effort. Without it, we'd be lost. Men, you're looking at 5000 years of culture."

We were talking about manufacturing capacity and capability of China and the relevance of Chinese component suppliers for international supply chains. It's a sunset industry but there is potential for them to move elsewhere, automate themselves, or switch to new businesses. You just kind of ignored all that as usual. Dude no one claims China invented assigned seating in movie theatres, but it's pretty retarded that you can only find it in fancier movie theatres in bigger cities in Canada/States. And nobody cares who invented that. I'm just glad that I can use my phone and split the tickets/bill.

human flesh search is basically just 'crowdsourcing internet detectivery' from ten years ago. It was super easy in like 2009 because everyone had a RenRen or Kaixin page with all their photos and probably public, and you have an absurd number of co-students at your university. So if you just post someone's photo on a popular BBS and include a convincing story about them being a piece of poo poo, theres almost guaranteed to be at least one person who says "Oh that's my classmate/neighbor/cousin's boyfriend" and then they dump the kaixin photos and telephone number and everything

Like I remember a story about a hit-and-run where they found the guy because he had posted a ton of photos of his car w/ license plate on his RenRen page

Speaking of Dunkirk, the Taiwanese title couldn't resist adding "big operation" to the end of "Dunkirk" as if no Chinese speaking audience could ever be enticed into seeing a foreign film without "whiz bang kapowie" grafted on to the for no loving reason.
