No we're not going to blame Columbus for the existence of germs on his continent which he wasn't aware of and didn't intentionally spread. The vast majority of disease death was kicked off accidentally from those very first contacts and preceded ahead of further western colonization from there. It's really not a huge jump to go from that to you were born uneducated and if you aren't succeeding its because you didn't try hard enough.

He'd have a point if there was some major political momentum towards just eliminating all sweatshop (or similar) labor, but there isn't. It comes off as a bizarre argument, because it's pushing back against a movement that doesn't really exist in any capacity in the context of a situation that is obviously still unacceptably bad. A reasonable person in this situation would think "it is bad that these people are being exploited, perhaps we should do something about this" instead of defending against a misrepresentation of the anti-sweatshop argument.
