Making a quick pick before work because holy poo poo you guys moved fast. Rangers want Joshua Ho-Sang because I want a young line too and also gently caress defense.

I went through the last few rounds wondering why the heck Blake Wheeler wasn't being drafted, until I went back and re-read the list and saw he was drafted in the third. Doh!

I got tired of doing that so now I just do a search on the "picks by team" tab since for some reason it doesn't seem to want to let me search on the main draft tab of the spreadsheet

Granted I'm on a junkbox but as of the last week Google Sheets takes about thirty seconds to get past the "Reconnecting" and "Trying to connect" statuses on the sheet. Can't wait for the later rounds. JoelJoel up until 2:47 PM EST, followed by Yaya.

ya he's a guy I would've considered taking in the 9th or 10th if he was around, but I figured someone would grab him first. I lean towards him being a quality NHLer but he could blow chunks too.

I think at least the first year he does well unless he completely tanks because they don't have a lot at center, he's gonna get a ton of chances as the #1 PP C.

I wanted Manson and Silfverberg and did not expect them to last. I also forgot about the existence of Shipachyov and wondered why someone would pick Josh Ho-Sang in the 7th round. e: Jordan7hm you know it's okay to pick players over 24 right?

Jordan7hm posted:That was the gimmick, yeah. Going only to pick 211 and going back to 2013, and excluding 2014 since there's no age category, it's been trending downward average age-wise: 26.78 (2013) -> 26.38 (2015) -> 26.04 (2016) -> 25.7 (2017). 23 and under players picked have gone up: 54 (2013 and 2015) -> 60 (2016) -> 61 (2017) 21 and under players have also gone up (well, kinda): 20 (2013) -> 22 (2015) -> 33 (2016) -> 32 (2017) 19 and under players have gone up: 5 (2013 and 2015) -> 10 (2016) -> 11 (2017). As well, the oldest player chosen has been up and down: 42 (2013) -> 38 (2015) -> 44 (2016) -> 36 (2017) So while people are definitely picking younger, it's not a significant growth IMO.

I think that in light of the talent of recent draft years (excluding 2017) it's not that surprising to see more young players picked up since a lot of players from 2011ish to 2016 have really established themselves quickly.

Jordan7hm posted:Is this actually true? I feel like last year was great but the rookie classes haven't been all that impressive in the last five or six years otherwise. It would make sense given that scoring hasn't dropped overall but individual players are no longer consistently hitting the 30-40 goal plateau anymore.
