My dad was talking up how he loved watching Daytona/NASCAR on ABC's Wide World of Sport, painting his slot cars to look like the SuperBird and Bobby Isaac, etc. Not nearly as close to cup as you were, but I mean it just kinda proves how hilarious that overall narrative is. iospace posted:As much as everyone hates Kyle Busch, I would have loved to see him him try Double Duty. It's one of the most difficult achievements in motorsports to finish on both lead laps (meaning you did 1100 miles under speed all day) and would definitely help bridge the gap more than meaningless dickwaving over "WHY IS NASCAR AT INDY". They were talking about how NASCAR would get nothing out of it. I disagree. I think the story lines around that weekend would have been tremendous for all party's involved. I also think Cup fans would be psyched to see it. I know if the shoe was on the other foot and a couple of Indy guys were starting Daytona? I'd be excited.

No sanctioning body of any sport has any impetus to change until the money is threatened. NASCAR's TV money faucet isn't getting shut off for awhile so they think they have plenty of time to come up with some gimmick that will turn the clock back to 2005.

It looks so much cleaner without the sponsor blockers. Also also, from the article: quote:The LED display system on each car – which currently shows position in the running order, the time of a pit stop and when push-to-pass is engaged – is more sophisticated, expanding opportunities for providing fans with content. quote:The current 2.2-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 engines from Chevrolet and Honda will continue to be used. Modeling indicates oval-track qualifying speeds at Indianapolis Motor Speedway should be comparable to 2017 Indianapolis 500 speeds. Given the car will be lighter, higher speeds than previously seen at some venues are possible.

Drivers have been asking for the car to generate more downforce from underneath the car instead of on top using the wings. Now, 66 percent of the generated downforce will be at the bottom of the car in road course/short oval configuration, an increase of 19 percent. Reducing the dependency on topside downforce has eliminated the need for many of the extra aero kit pieces, which added to the turbulent air an Indy car leaves in its wake. At a recent short oval test where some of the new kit’s components were affixed to a current car, the following distance for a trailing car was cut in half, improving maneuverability. If it’s easier to follow, it should be easier to pass, creating an opportunity for tighter, more exciting racing. My god its like they thought oh yeah more ground effects should allow closer competition rather than the usual MORE DOWNFORCE FROM WINGS Wait why can no one pass or get close??? Like most series seem to do.
