show ended up pretty ok. the tensions between ohana and her mom and tokyo and ko were the good parts. i decided the grey heron is the spirit of kissuiso aka festing it up since it is first an obstacle for ohana but then she overcomes it on the stairs. ultimately it leaves with ohana and thats also why when she and takako leave for tokyo to get the producer and save the inn there are two of them departing

Eccentric Family is good. I'm only on ep 2 but I like it. Anime that involve family stories (and aren't creepy as hell like Papa no Iukoto) are my favorite. Which is why everyone should watch/read Kyouran Kazoku Nikki. Just ignore the OP and the catgirl and you'll discover it's actually a really good, dramatic show. Also I stumbled on a show called Tobe Isami on YouTube (someone posted the raws) and it looks good so far. Sort of a tomboy magical girl show where she beats up bad guys with gadgets and a light saber instead of magic. It actually got a partial release in the US by Hirameki of all companies. I guess they decided to branch out from translating VNs to try their hand at anime. They even had a dub for it. Sadly they only made it to ep 9 on DVD before going belly-up.

Kyouran Kazoku Nikki is a pretty good and pretty underrated series, but at the same time, looking back on it, it's probably not aged well, particularly the main character who is one big transphobic joke.

Yeah, which is especially sad when the series is supposed to be about acceptance. Ginka gets treated a little better in the books but no one bothers to actually see her as a girl at any point.

Crunchyroll recently put up a series called Chargeman Ken which they are playing up as a 'so bad it's good' kind of thing. I'm kinda curious but at the same time 60+ episodes of a bad anime is still 60+ episodes of a bad anime. It would have been more fun if they had tried to do a Ghost Stories kind of thing with a comedy dub.

chargeman ken would NOT be improved by a joke about jews. its entire appeal is how aimless and weird it is, a dub that actually tried to be funny would ruin it. each episode is only 13 minutes and you aren't expected to watch the entire thing, just a couple of episodes at random. it's an incredibly episodic series and trying to watch it in order would also ruin it.

Oh god it's so sincere. Like they actually thought this would turn into a big franchise and they'd sell like stuffed animals of the weird clumsy robot or something. My favorite part is when he barrel-rolls through mid-air for a few seconds before coming to rest on his stomach, still in mid-air, to take aim and shoot. I think this is what the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series meant about falling and missing the ground.

Chargeman Ken rules precisely because there wasn't any irony on the part of the creators It means you get what might as well be the tv anime equivalent of Manos, an entertainingly weird incompetent work made with complete sincerity
